Hi there, how far could i overclock using the stock cooler i got with my 3500+ venice. My mobo is a A8N-SLI SE and is it safe to use the Overclocking feature in bios when you just UP it by 102% then 104% etc etc. Also another question, Say if i got a 8800 GTX and a x2 4400 would my Mobo be bottlenecking the hardware?

Thanks Ryan

I never used the stock cooler so I can't say for certain but the best way to test it would be to overclock the CPU by abit, check the idle temps on Coretemp, enable logging and then run Prime or Orthos for abit to see what the max temp is like under load. I would say 55-60 degress under load is probably acceptable. If you're nowhere near that, raise the FSB some more and repeat!

EDIT: I woud overclock manually, the settings in the BIOS that do it automatically are often rather flaky and you won't really learn anything if you do it that way.

Never used the stock cooler so I dont know really.

I'd say get a better cooler, Tuniq Tower should do the trick :D

If you were to get a X2 4400+ and 8800 GTX I doubt that the mobo would be the bottleneck. It may not be the best mobo for overclocking the X2 4400+ but you should get some good results from it though.

ahh right thanks, ive already got a case and a new cooler int he shopping list (PC-7+ and a Arctic Freezer Pro64) so hopefully i can drop a couple degrees and have better overclockablility with that cooler.

Good choice, the AFP64 does it's job well.
