I've tried to install the canon WIA driver several times, but when I plug in the camera and flick the power to on, I get the "found new hardware : DCP CONNECT" bubble appear, but then the windows "let windows search for the appropriate driver" etc window appears.

Can anyone help me, as this window shouldnt come up. The troubleshoot section just says "uninstall the driver and start again".

edit: I've tried on my laptop now too and its the same story. Tried a number of USB ports, with all other usb equipment unplugged and STILL the same.

I dont know anything about the 350 , but I do know about the trouble with USB ports. Allways install the drivers first , possibly re-boot , then plug your USB device into the port. I know lots of people who have just plugged there cameras into a port and loaded the software and it has actually dissabled the port. They've had to buy cards readers in order to view there pictures on their Pc.Normally after the software installation and plugging the device in , it will find the relevant files and a pop up message will read ....your hardware device is ready to use.... or something similar .If it does'nt ,leave the CD in the tray and point and this if it asks for the driver .Your PC or lappy is not on a network is it ?? . someone could't install a USB scanner today at work on a network PC as they did'nt have administrative rights .Just a few ideas .

Cheers for the reply. I installed the software first, rebooted then plugged it in and turned it on exactly as they say in instructions. After this I thought it may be some conflict with my ixus v3 drivers, so I uninstalled them and started over but the same thing happens.
Fortunatly I have a card reader in my printer, so it looks like I'll be using that :(
Oh I am on a network, but no user profiles so all 'users' are admin.

Sorry, elaborate? I cancel the window and then it just says new hardware failed to install or whatever it says.

Re above: Yeah the camera menu is set to pc connectivity.
 
Hmm. did that too, but it fails to find any files relating to the camera.
did it come up saying "DCP connect" as the device found first?
Looks like its gonna be sent to canon for a month :(

Never came up with that I'm afraid. If I were you I'd get a USB 2 card reader, I'm sure I've read someone that you risk getting voltage down the USB cable with the camera directly connected.

Yeah I was going to get one anyway - question is, do I send off the camera to get it repaired and forfeit a month incase theres a larger problem, or just play blind ignorance? I think I'm inclined to go down the "get it repaired" route to be honest, incase it comes back to haunt me.
 
Yeah, done it on lappy and main desktop. I've rung and they said no charge if its found not to be faulty, so I guess all I have to lose is the delivery/insurance cost.
 
**UPDATE**
Camera has just been returned from the service centre where it was dismantled for inspection and USB lead was replaced...
It may just have been a shoddy USB lead :o
So glad to have it back though! Thanks canon - great service!!
