Got a friend who btw tried to sign up in this forum and got this as response: "Your registration at Overclockers UK Forums did not meet our membership needs because we do not deem you to be ready to fill the specified requirements to use our forums as a member.

Sorry,
Overclockers UK Forums"

His config is:

i5 3570 non k
Gigabyte GA-H61M-D2-B3
Corsair CMV4GX3M1A1333C9 Value Select 4GB DDR3 1333 Mhz CL9
gtx 970
XFX TS550

So he knows he doesnt have a lot of room to OC his i5 but he wants to know how can he get it to at least 4ghz, i think it should be possible right?

I could be wrong, but while it is possible to overclock non-k Ivy Bridge processors a bit through increasing the multiplier, I don't think this is possible with the H61 chipset.

I suggest having a look in the BIOS to see if you can raise the multiplier at all.

If you can raise the BCLK on that board then you can get a little overclock by raising it to 104-106 MHz (it's rare to get it higher). Should raise the base frequency to 3536-3604 MHz (from 3400). There's no way to get it higher than that.

E.g. #3 http://www.overclock.net/t/928557/overclocking-bclk-2600k

It's a reference frequency though so several other frequencies will also go up, eeking out a small increase in performance in other ways too.

But it's probably not worth spending ages over.

P.S. this should be in the OCing subforum.

Fairly certain the capability to overclock the 3570 (non k) is completely limited by the Chipset as said by RatmanGB mentioned. Can't remember what the limitations on the H61 Chipset off the top of my head are, but likely you'll need to go via bclk manipulation rather than simply increasing the multiplier.

But I can confirm that the 3570 can hit 4Ghz if desired, but requires a suitable chipset motherboard. (Using Z77 here for mine, with no further modifications other than multiplier increase)

Providing Intel left it in you can overclock this chip by X4 on the multi. However, you can only overclock the turbo, and for that you need a board capable of accessing the turbo multi.

I think it's in Ivy. I think they removed it with Haswell.
