Hi i currently have a p8z77 vlx2 mobo and a 3570k that turbo boosts up to 3.8 ghz. My idle temps are early 30's and while gaming they have reached 60c. A few months back my idle temps used to be in the early 20's and when under load late 40's early 50's.

Obviously it's summer time now, I'm gaming in a pretty cramped room and the weather is quite hot and humid here (which is a first for Ireland!) so that's what i put the slight increase down to.

I'm using an arctic freezer 7 pro rev 2 cpu cooler at the moment and am aiming for a 4.2 ghz overclock. Would my temps be ok with this kind of an oc considering i can already reach 60 at load?

Also I'm a total noob when it comes top overclocking. Could anybody suggest an easy to follow overclocking guide? Cheers

you should manage 4ghz maybe more idk

could try cpu/pci clock of 100
40x cpu multi leave all turbo ratio's on auto
use cpu offset of +0.005v
try low loadline calibration (if unstable or no boot try medium )

shouldn't need to adjust anything else, stress cpu while in windows and look to see what load cpu voltage is in cpu-z

Cheers man, when should i worry about load voltage? what would be considered high or dangerous? Haven't got a clue about voltages and didn't really wanna be touching them tbh i was under the impression that 4.2 was considered a fairly standard overclock. I often see people say there shouldn't be any problem getting there but it all varies i suppose. My temps aren't great really so that dictates everything.

Thanks for replying

can i just say if you are new
learn how to reset the bios on the board before you start
you will get more confident after you have gone through that a few times

& upto 85c ur fine, 60 is nothing you are worry to much :)

Whats your voltage like when you are gaming or at full load ?

My cpu vcore is 1.360v at the maximum when gaming and my temps were in the 60's with one core reaching 69, hope that the vcore is the right thing to be looking at for my voltage. I noticed in cpuz that my core speed is always at 4.2ghz, even when i'm just on the desktop.

Is there an option i can use that makes it only go to 4.2 when gaming? don't really want it at 4.2 when browsing the web

Yep i was thinking the same thing myself as i'm always paranoid about screwing stuff up so i made sure i knew how to load up the optimized defaults. Good advice, thanks mate

1.360v is pretty high, If I was you just revert back to stock settings and invest in a better cooler.

Enable SpeedStep and it will only make your CPU work half load when you are at an idle state, IE: browsing, on desktop etc..

Edit: Enable, my bad..

I would enable speedsstep and all power saving

for it to use less at idle you need to use cpu offset

did you try the settings I gave you?

yep but now i've got a problem, i can't get into the bios when i press f2, it just continues on and loads windows, any ideas?

keep spamming it fast (as soon as fans start to spin at startup)

it should go into the bios

Nope won't go in there and i've tried spamming and holding the button, comes up with the standard asus logo and what to press but it's like it just doesn't register me pressing anything and then for a second a little underscore thing comes up like i mentioned.

Like it's loading something but then just boots windows. Any suggestions? i know i'm a pain in the arse mate, sorry.
