I have a couple of questions about upgrading a Q6600 build up to a 3570K one, for overclocking. TLDR included!
After a 480GTX RMA I have been given a 580GTX that makes my Q6600 3.0Ghz sweat even more than the 480.
I game at 1920x1080 and the Q6600 doesn't want to go any faster without lots more voltage so I thought I could get away with a mini upgrade, spec here is minimum I need:
YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - OEM £179.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £84.98
1 x Phanteks PH-TC14PE CPU Cooler - Red(Socket LGA 2011/1155/1156/1366/775/AMD AM2/2+/AM3) £66.98
1 x Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (BLS2CP4G3D1609DS1S00CEU) £35.99
1 x Pioneer 24x Internal DVR-S19LBK DVD Rewriter including Labelflash - Retail £20.99
1 x Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound (3.5g) £8.99
Total : £409.32 (includes shipping : £9.50).
I will be keeping:
Corsair M4 SSD
Samsung F3 1TB HD
Seagate 400GB HD
Gigabyte 580GTX UD
Mouse/Keyboard/OS/TV as monitor
I want to keep:
Corsair HX620 PSU
Akasa Eclipse 62 with Akasa viper fans
Will these be up to the job of powering and cooling the new system, assuming I am going for an overclock in the 4.5Ghz range? I am ok to increase the budget for a good PSU and case if my old ones will limit or cause problems.
Also, in relation to the motherboard, I see people recommending ones like the gigabyte D3H I've selected. Is there really a difference between more expensive ones, apart from features like SLI, in relation to realiability of overclocking?
It just seems weird to pay extra for the K CPU, a lot for a massive cooler and then get a 'budget' motherboard.
TLDR:
Are the more basic Z77 boards like the Gigabyte D3H just as good for overclocking?
Is a reused Corsair HX620 PSU suitable for a 3570k + 580GTX + 3 HDs build?
Would an Akasa Eclipse 62 with Akasa Vipers still be workable for a 3570K overclock to ~4.5Ghz without heat trouble?
Budget can go up to a good case and PSU.
