Hi,

I'm thinking of getting a 3570k and a Gigabyte Z77-DS3H Intel Z77 tomorrow, but I was wondering if the current RAM I have would work with the new processor and motherboard.

I currently have a Gigabye 880GM UD2H, X4 965 CPU and 2x4GB of Corsair CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 ram (http://www.corsair.com/cmx4gx3m2a1600c9.html)

Will this ram work on the new motherboard with the 3570k? I see that it is 1.65v Ram, yet the Z77 motherboard says it accepts 1.5v ram, so I'm not sure?

I'd like to not have to buy new ram at the moment if possible.

Kinds regards.

Any DDR3 RAM will work in the DDR3 boards. If you want to ensure compatibility, check out the QVL (Qualified Vender's List) on the manufacturer's website.

All RAM will have a different voltage rating, but the motherboard will adjust to what the RAM needs. Yes that RAM will be fine, but you'll be better off with 8gb's total, 4gb may be too much of limitation.

Sweet. Thanks for the heads up on the board. I didn't realise it was voltage locked. And yeah, 4GB ram sucks, but at the moment most of my MMORPG games are running a little slow because of the CPU speed (i.e. graphics settings don't make a difference), so I want to spend as little as possible to remedy that in the short run. I'll get some more ram in a few months, I expect.

The D3H board is £89.99. Do you think the MSI Z77A-G45 on offer at £79.99 would be a worthy substitute? That Kitguru website seems to sugest it is. It would save me £10 and bring me back to the price I had originally intended to spend.

I think Stulid mentioned that the G45 was v/locked also. Looks better than the D3H if that's why your looking at it, I understand entirely.

Yeah, I'm just looking for a board around £70. I found the Gigabyte DS3 for £71 and the Gigabyte HD3 for £72. The Gigabyte D3H is £89.99 and the MSI G45 is £79.99 on OcUK. I'd be willing to stretch to the £79.99 MSI G45, because of the free members delivery, but the D3H is a little high.

I'm not sure how the HD3 performs but its prolly a gimped D3H like the DS.

I'd read up some reviews on the HD3.

At the end of the day the MSI and DS3H are great boards but you get what you pay for. The D3H is well worth the extra in my opinion.
