3570k running slow

I've finally built it... and its running like a dog with broken legs!

i5 3570k, Asrock Z77 Extreme 4, 16Gb Samsung ram, 60Gb Sandisk Ultra SSD (boot), WD Black 1Tb HDD - No OC, multiplyer set to 34, Ram at default too and running ultra slow?

I've downloaded cpuZ and that reads my multiplyer at 16??? Any guidance appreciated.

Multiplyer 16, is speedstep kicking in to conserver power etc, as your not doing anything intensive.

What makes you think its slow?

If its windows not feeling snappy, then its the SSD.

Its running at 16 speed wehen enrgy saving called Intel Speedstep, if you stress your pc then it will raise it automatically to 34.

cpuZ also says Ram at 800Mhz ?? CPU Core voltage 1.080V is that low? I'm yet to see the PC start in super fast SSD time, as the windows logo gets to do its whole thing and a quick AVG virus scan on the PC is NOT quick either... however CPUZ does report 3400 whilst spluttering over a virus scan!

Third go at loading Win7 64/AVG Retail - this time the 60Gb SSD is now under half full, having removed hibernation!

...feels like my old dual core +4800 with same windows and a normal HDD was smoother and more responsive - tried loading C&C4 (trusty old fav) I get to login to game, password verifies and as soon as I hit play - hangs up its boots and retires to the 'reset' button!

Well cpuZ was pretty useless...

OC 4.2Ghz stable on prime95 at 64C (Room is 28C, Case 38C side off whilst working) V Core 1.174V

Working out my stability issues - still finding bits in this fancy bios  especially to do with the SSD!

Going to stress the 16Gb Ram as soon as I can run stable programs :)

It's SpeedStep, the CPU underclocks itself when idle in order to save power. It will clock back up when the CPU is being used. It's perfectly normal.

As for reporting 800mhz, it's because RAM is Dual Data Rate (DDR). So you multiply this by 2 and you'll get the actual speed.

As for that slow speed I'm assuming you mean things such as boot and load times? Did you have any other drives connected when you was installing Windows on the SSD?

Download ATTO and post a screenshot of the results: http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1749/ATTO Disk Benchmark v2.46.html

If I remember correctly the Sandisk Ultras run at 280mb/s read speed, which is SATA 2 speeds. Have you also ensured it's connected to a native Intel port and not the ASMedia port?

What is the Native Intell Port??????
Gigabyte Z77X-D3H mobo--SSD is in very first SATA port, is that correct..?

How do you post picy of ATO image??? THANKS.

It's the ports labelled "SATA" and not "GSATA" on the board.

As for posting screenshots, when it's finished benchmarking, press printscreen on your keyboard, paste it to Paint, crop it, then save it. Upload to a picture hosting site like imgur, then on the right hand side copy the link that begins with "

...having told my BIOS it has an SSD on port 0 - its a little quicker and smooth.

I'm on the 'native' sata 3, port 0 :D and ATTO has me at around 280 - Cheers!

My only head scratch is that I thought I'd spec'ed a higher speed SSD than 280... But PC is starting to run smooth, as I wind up the CPU and RAM timings.

My initial problem with C&C4 is a 'software' issue... I'm not the only one according to the net! Boot time on Win7 64 is now around 20 ish seconds and the "beast" awaits my monitor/GPU update next month...

Eh I still dont get it, you shouldnt have to wind up any settings and timings for it to run smooth.
TBH if it isnt running smooth at stock i wouldnt go messing with ram timings and clock speeds untill I found out what my issue was.

...:( I'd spec'ed the Sandisk Exteme... in a moment of madness I saw (what I thought was) a great price and bought two - one for my admin pc, one for my games pc... now I realise my mistake! ...I bought Ultra's NOT Extremes!

I might run them both in RAID to boost performance (as a OS drive) on one PC and buy an Extreme 120 for this pc, as the overtime keeps rolling in! :D

Well, I'm getting to grips with the SSD setup and windows is a clean fast boot now...

The smooth / hang seems to be down to C&C4... which played great on my old AMD rig! So I loaded it as a 'test comparison' to bench my new rig which should have given me results I could recognise... but it seems that there are driver / software issues that LOTS of people are trying to overcome... (stlii scratching my bone dome on that issue) :D

I was reluctant to move on - as C&C4 was rock solid in my view... but having found multiple sites / problems I have moved on and after tweaking my Win7 experience... I now have FEAR 3 runnig smooth as silk... Can't wait for my GPU/Monitor upgrade now...

'as the windows logo gets to do its whole thing and a quick AVG virus scan on the PC'

There's your problem. AVG slows down windows boot time.

I don't think you would notice the difference between the sandisk ultra + extreme, only in benchmarks.

Your pc is fine, if you had your old pc side by side you would see the difference then.

Yup! I was just expecting to shout WOW... :D but actually its running fine once I understood the bios / SSD set up on my Games PC - My admin PC is still awaiting refit... and there is a BIG boot up difference.

I may stick with a 60Gb Ultra (boot ssd) on each PC - I take the point that benchmark is the only giveaway... both PC's were supposed to end up as SSD boot and a 1TB HDD... But as my older admin PC was only capable of SATA2, I'd spent £25 on a SATA3 PCI card... to support the Extreme SSD.

So now I have two SATA2 60Gb drives and SATA3 capacity on both PC's.... still thinking about dropping both 60Gb in my SATA2 (RAID0) Admin PC (without the SATA3 PCI interface) and buying a 120 Extreme for my Z77 Gaming rig... I've been so suprised as to how easy it is to fill up +40Gb when loading base programs...

Are you RAM in their correct DIMM slots on the mobo? My slots go like this 4-2-3-1 so I had, coming from my old board when it was 4-3-2-1, i just swapped my sticks out and put them in the same slots, but they where in slots 1+3 and it made my 3570k run like a dog. Took me ages to figure out what was wrong, when I stumbled upon the numbering looking through my mobo manual.
