It basically seems to fail hard in CPU bound games like ARMA 3, Planetside 2 etc. and I have no idea why. It's on stock clocks but I'm lucky to get above 30fps in either of those games regardless of resolution/settings. It's stock @ 3.4Ghz but that wouldnt cause this, not when people I know are getting 60fps on 2500k machines etc. The graphics card with it is a 670GTX, sick of getting these weird issues tbh.

I'm wondering if my cores are locked or something? I seem to get performance issues where I simply shouldn't be having them on my rig, and was wondering if anybody could help. I really want to nail these problems and get them sorted, and I know a lot of people on here know what they're talking about.

Anything else you might need just let me know.

Cheers!

Settings you're running at? Using vsync? Res? AA/AF? Tried changing any of those?

Tried different graphics drivers? Reinstall of Windows?

Tried overclocking by a bit to see what improvements you get (if any)?

Tried setting up CPU/GPU clock speed, utilisation and temperature monitoring whilst you play?

Are your games constantly 'slow'/laggy or seem okay for a bit and then start to suck? Can you reproduce the behaviour by performing a specific set of steps?

Answering all of the above will help people identify the cause of your issues.

I really can't believe people are getting solid 60 FPS on Planetside 2, even with an overclocked 2500K.

If you run CPU usage monitoring on MSI Afterburner latest beta you'll probably see at least one of your cores getting maxed.

Doesn't matter what settings mate, 800x600, 1440x900, 1920x1200, AA off, no Vsync, no SSAO etc. makes no difference.

Going to boost it to 4Ghz tonight, motherboard has an on/off button for it so may as well.

Nope, MSI afterburner for GPU but not sure what monitors CPU?

Most games are fine, but the games I enjoy the most (typical) are the ones that suffer. Someone I've known ages has an identical rig to what mine is and I know he aint a bull****er and with the exception of The Secret World, he's never had any performance issues that weren't down to his PC not having the power, whereas I can literally be in a game with him and be having the problems while he's fine. It was really bad in TERA. :(

Friend A. has a 2500k @ 4.6Ghz and a 6950 and is doubling my framerate in ARMA 3. Friend B. has a 3570k @ 4.6Ghz and a 670 and is getting between 40-60 in PS2, with drops to 30 that are inevitable when it gets insane.

EDIT: I've done some test thing:

Check your GPU/GPU usage and pin point which is the possible bottleneck. Your HDD results could be holding you back too.

I'm using an SSD for games, have jumped my CPU up to 4Ghz and it's stable after a maximum stress level IntelBurnTest cycle so I'm going to jump into ARMA. I've cranked the GPU clocks up by about 20% also.

Have tried each preset now and low is giving 100 odd fps, standard is giving a little less, high is giving about 80, very high 50 odd and ultra is giving 30. No idea. :p

Before I had SLI my fps was 60 anyway, honestly I think your problem comes from the fact you have not overclocked your processor. I will never understand why people buy a K line CPU and don't use it to its fullest potential.

Have you unparked your cores, have you checked your not being throttled by temps, Do you have your OS installed on an SSD etc

run cpu-z check you are actually running at 3400mhz not 1600mhz(low power mode for ivy), is your ram in the correct slots.

Never had a problem with planetside 2, always had super stable and high FPS even in intense areas, using the latest Nvidia drivers everytime there is an update. My cpu has been overclocked to 4.4-4.6 from the start of me buying it, first thing I did was overclock it and unpark my cores ( http://www.coderbag.com/Programming-C/Disable-CPU-Core-Parking-Utility ).

both my gpu's are clocked @ 1202/7008 (same as when I did not have SLI) , Memory is running at full speed. OS is on an SSD games are on a separate drive bar a few like battlefield4.

Have you run a malware/virus scan lately aswell?

monitor your CPU usage via afterburner (Settings>monitoring>cpu usage>show in OSD tick box) or with task manager.
