3570K Upgrade options?

Hi,

I currently have a 3570K (non OC) with 16GB RAM and 2 SSDs, mainly doing image editing, some gaming and web surfing. Computer is fine and haven't experienced a single game from the ones I enjoy feeling slow. However there are times I wish LR was a bit faster and wonder if an upgrade would be worth it... I have these options:
1) Buy a used 3770K for the 4 additional threads (HT) and maybe change my DDR3 to 32GB. Honestly, despite the low cost, I am not expecting to see any difference, but you know better :-)
2) Upgrade to a 8400 with similar RAM. I would gain two more real cores and a completely new architecture, but I do have some fear about the long term life of this setup (my current one is around 5-6 years old and my next one will have to leave for even more). What is the upgrade path after the 8400 and the 2011 socket? Just more GHz? Is it worth the cost of around 200-300€?
3) Ryzen is an option, but I read that Adobe LR is unfortunately more optimized for Intel platforms.

Thx!

Overclock the 3570k first and see if that helps, a fairly cheap £40 cooler will get you to 4.5ghz normally fairly easily even with a dud like mine.

The 3570k is still a good CPU so unless you have a specific need for more cores, I would wait until 2019 because that’s when AMD's 7nm and Intel's 10nm CPU's will be out.
Another thing to consider is we might see PCI Express 4 or 5 on the motherboards released alongside the new CPU’s, and the ridicules DDR4 ram prices will hopefully have gone down too.

You do know i5 8400 isnt 2011 socket? You need the 1151 *370

The current upgrade path from i5 8400 is the i5 8600k the i7 8700 and the 8700k.

The new 8 core intels are coming out at some point, II don' think we know if they will work on same socket but knowing intel will probably be different.

I upgraded from the 3570k overclocked to 4.8ghz to the i5 8400 and it's a massive upgrade for gaming. I don't know how it would effect the programs you use.

Yes you are right, the 1151 is the correct one, my mistake :-)
When you say massive upgrade for gaming what do you mean? My resolution is at 1440p/60 and in games I occasionally play, don't think I will see much difference (Elite, TW games, some Fifa and FM games).

On the more demanding games I played like gta, needforspeed, battlefield, starwars the 3570k would just max out 100% all cores and framerate drop dramatically and I get none of that on the 8400.

There is some benchmarks here and you can see it's twice the minimum framerate on the 7700k (8400 and 7700k are about same in games)
Twice the minimums is obviously a massive difference to game play.

I don't know about your games and it wouldn't be as much difference at 1440p.
