Today I have tinkered after a little reading on here, and got my 2500k to 4.8ghz on 1.44v. Temps are decent, it hasn't gone above 70c yet after about 3 hours on prime95.

As ever though, I get the upgrade fever all the time and was wondering what a 3570k is like? Whats a good or common OC for them? is it easy to get them clocked high? Ive heard they get rather warm when you get around 4.5ghz.

Ive read though that a 2500k clocked at 4.8ghz like mine is on par with a 3570k at 4.5ghz, is that correct? If so then there would be no point in getting a 3570k as my 2500k is solid on 4.8ghz.

Hope that makes sense.
 
When i was last looking into it the census was generally if you have a 2500k don't upgrade.

I believe 4.0-4.2 on stock volts, 4.5 was doable by a fair amount with acceptable temps, but beyound that and you might aswell just put a grill on the side because it's a bbq now, not a pc.

Remember though that 4.5 is a bit faster than a 2500k 4.5.
 
thats my point mate, i know 4.5ghz on both, the 3570k win, but 4.8ghz on the 2500k is like 4.5ghz on the 3570k? So theres literally no reason to upgrade to it.
 
No idea why anyone would sidegrade from a 2500k to a 3570k. They are on par performance wise. If building a new PC from scratch then by all means go for the newer chip.

I wouldn't say sideway...but yes, in vast majority of the games there won't be much difference in performance between the two, with the except with games like SC2 or Shogun2. In a way, going from as i5 2500K to a i5 3570K would be a bit like going from a 5870 2GB to a 6950 2GB (without unlock).

If you were doing a new build then the 3570k is the one to go for but if youve already got a 2500k then the upgrade isnt enough to justify the cost.

From what ive read 4.5 on the 3570k is about eqivelent to 4.8 on the 2500k and i think both take about the same effort to get there.
 
Im currently on a decision and trying to wrap my brains as to which one to go for myself. I currently have my list of items which i will buy this friday and im debating weather to get the 3570k or the 2500k

The 2500k seems to better when it comes to OC'ing and has its name on the podium and is still at top in many users eyes (Gold Reward ) for the I5 series. But then the 3570k is new, stock speeds are faster, HD4000 but has a downside to its OC'ing potential in terms of heat

Now im buying it for gaming, so do i get the 2500K which is £20 cheaper or go for the 3570K... Would i actually benifit from the HD4000 then the HD2000 for gaming.. Decisions Decisions!!!

This is a fresh new build by the way lol

fresh build go for the 3570k. sure you get slightly less overclock potential, but when are you needing more than 4.5ghz? by the time you do, you'll be looking for an upgrade. and 4.5ghz 3570k is more or less 2500k at 4.8, and people hardly go above that for the 2500k either. instead think about pcie gen3 which will most definitely become important, if it isn't already a big benefit for multi-gpu setups. the 3570k is superior to the 2500k, in every way bar the cost-cutting decision to use cheaper heat transfer materials. the 3570k has a higher max safe temp, and technically produces less heat. obviously in the end, it doesn't matter because of the thermal grease they used... but anyway because of similar performance at less power, and pcie gen3, get the newer chip. no reason to get a 2500k for a current build given the same price, but again no reason at all to go from one to the other either.

p.s if you ever get a gpu, the hd 4000 won't matter since lucid virtu mvp is a gimmick. though if like me you're spending loads of time without a gpu at all, the hd 4000 is incredibly capable!
