Hi,

My cousin has just took delivery of a Sharp LC46XD1E which atm is running a 360 through the official VGA lead.

The problem is when he sets the resolution to 1080p the TV gives an 'out of range' message.

He's phoned me up expecting me to know the answer but to be honest I haven't got a clue, PC's are more my forte.

Looking at the specs of his TV and reading up on the 360 VGA lead I'm assuming he shouldn't have a problem receiving a 1080p signal ?

Sorry if my description is a bit vague, I'm just going off what he's told me over the phone. Still, it'd be much appreciated if anyone

could shine some light on why he's having trouble receiving a 1080p signal through the 360 dashboard.

TIA.

yea i just had quick looky at sharp's website and for some weird reason they want you to use the component cable and then with the tv there should have been a component -> VGA adapter to then connect it to the vga port on the tv
anyhow as above why isnt he using Component? and does it work at 480p or 720p with the VGA?

Thats another problem, he says the TV hasn't got any component inputs. I know, pretty shoddy for a £1600 tv.

Personally I would have done my homework before spending that amount of cash on a tv, I'm just trying to make the best of a bad situation for him.

He's already talking about returning the tv but I hoped it wouldn't need to come to that, maybe he has no choice ?

Does this TV accept 1080p over VGA? I seem to remember reading in a review that it doesn't. Not 100% sure though...
Not sure mate but you may be onto something there. I'll give him another phone and email him the link to this thread. Thanks for the responses up to now.

i've heard this happens with the new Samsung LE40M86BD as well ,on the forum they can't quite decide if it's the tv or the xbox at fault.
i was gonna get that model aswell

how can a brand new tv not have component ?? it comes as standard these days. its probably hidden somewhere .

OK.. to help, I've had 3 46XD1E's (returned due to slight banding).. I now have a 42XD1E (until the new sharps arrive)..

The short story is the TV cannot do 1080p over component or VGA... it can do 1080i over component and only 720p over VGA..

The set's input 4 is a VGA socket, but it comes with a VGA->Component adapter, and in the menu you can set Input 4 to be either VGA or Component..

The only way to get 1080p is via HDMI..

Tell him not to stress, 1080i over component will give him full resolution for HD-DVD's and since any game worth it's salt is 720p native, he won't be losing anything from games either...

I hope that helps..
