looking for some decent games me and my friend can play on the same tv. Prefferably a story drven game where we can go throug hit together.

We complete Army of 2 and loved it so anything like that.

Thanks Luke

Most have been said already but it's worth repeating:

Gears of War 1 & 2 - work well, but horizontal split screen. However the second one includes Horde which will keep you entertained for a while too.
Left 4 Dead - Superb fun again.
Both Rainbow Six: Vega's - benefit from being vertical split screen which works better because you can see further ahead. Definately worth it, story is linked and the second plays like an expansion pack tbh.
Halo 3 - does reduce the screen resolution and size in single Xbox splitscreen, but me and a friend still played through it. Can also go online with a guest for deathmatch etc.
And old one - EDF 2017; if you can find it - suitably fun japanese frachise that plays 'a bit' like Lost Planet. Good fun in Co-Op.

Can't think of anything else to add.

The resident evil 5 method of splitting the screen is kind of dodgy on 720p, and really, it's best doing online co-op with it.

Gears 2 and Halo 3 are both good Co-op games I've played though.

Used to play halo 3 with my sister split screen, it really annoyed me how much the resolution was messed up. There was a massive box around the game! (i was playing on a 20" at the time though...)

Was fun though.

This was before the patch to choose your res came out aswell..

Ooo hand't realised they had patched Halo 3 to adjust the screen size for same console co-op. Will have to check it out.

Yes, I do remember large black borders down the sides - at a guess 10-20% of the screen gone (could be my memory playing tricks). This was via component at 720p. Still playable but slightly irratating.

To the original op if you have the money and do a lot of local co-op, two 360's could be considered. Yes it does mean 2 x copies of the game, and/or 2 x live subscriptions (if online as well). But given 360's are cheaper than ever, some of these games are also really cheap now and finally the plethora of screen options - PC Monitor, SD CRT or HDTV's - it's worth considering.

I did consider it when I briefly owned two 360 (bought an Elite last summer to replace my orignal RROD premium), but common sense got the better of me and I sold the original 360.

Bumping this for some advice. I've got a mate coming over tomorrow and we're going to rent a game. I have Halo 3, GoW and R6:V. I'm thinking one of these:

Fable 2 - I know it has co-op but is it local co-op? and is it any good?
Saints Row 2 - Same question as Fable 2
Left 4 Dead - I didn't know this had split screen, is it good in that mode?
GoW 2 - I assume this is pretty much the same as GoW 1 with regards to split screen?

Pondered RE5 but I'm not sure if I could get used to the tank like controls. Any other big games we're missing?

^ Can't answer them all, never tried F2 in co-op, and I don't own SR2.

L4D is a hoot, you'll have a blast on this. GoW2 is in co-op plays a very similar game to the original.

I have 1, might rent 2, did quite enjoy 1 on co-op

Anyone know the answer to the Fable 2 question? Searching about seems to indiciate SR2 is online only :( but Fable 2 is split screen, anyone tried it? is it good?
