I have a premium 360 about 4 months old and made a mistake, I went it to a "mate" for a few nights, it turns out then he lent it to another mate (whom i dont know!!):mad: and now when i out in a cd it makes an odd noise but no marks on the disc

so;

1) what do i do about the "mate"?
2) what do i do about the 360, hope m$ accept it or not (under warranty)?

1) do him in :D (*)
2)how do you mean odd noise? the 360 is generally loud so if its just louder then thats to be expected.

*doing him in will not solve anything violence is wrong

Im unsure to be honest, 1 off your mate is a prat. And well outside the boundaries of acting like a friend. But thats not my business :P

As for the DVD drive What kind of noise?

like the noise of grinding or when you put 2 cd's in at once

kind of hard to explain, no marks on dvds and no errors with games just worrying

If its a grinding noise at the start of putting a dvd into the drive then thats normal..well it was on my premium. Although the elite that i traded it in for no longer makes that grinding noise. As for sending it back??, dont know if M$ will take it back tbh seeing as theres nothing really wrong with it unless you do a 3RROD:p....mine went belly up before i traded it in and i got it back with a newer quieter dvd drive.

Mine made this noise the other night and wouldnt read any disks. I picked up the front end of the 360 (3" off the gound) and dropped it. Now it works again.

Ouch, that's a definate no no in the unwritten rules of matedom.

Lesson learned.

If it's a good mate, just let him/her know, and then don't lend them stuff again! :p, all my mates are bang on but but I've learned over the years not to trust any of them with ANYTHING, haha, I'll either never see it again or get it back in crappy *** condition.

I got a weird grinding/cd crunching noise on a new premium 3 days after I bought the console (not dropped or anything, not moved while on etc), and then usually disk errors accompanying it, no visible marks/scratches on the game disk though when it happened (thank god), so I've kept it (i'm lazy :p) and it's been pretty good ever since (3 months), but if it was a common thing I'd just going to take it back to the retailer.

Hard to know what went on with your console in the time the other fella had your console (maybe he put it in the dishwasher to try and clean it :D), but just to let ya know what you're describing happened on my 3 day old premium which hadn't been dropped/misused in the slightest.

Don't lend out your electronics you silly man, as for problem 1 give that so called mate a good slapping....teach him not to take liberties.

As for problem 2, so long as it is not scratching disks and you are not getting any disk read errors then all is good, but if any issues arise take it back to the retailer and get a replacement.

It's not normal for it to make grinding noises, it's starting to scratch discs, slowly but surely. First thing you need to do is check that said friends friend hasn't nicked your console and swapped it for his duffer. are you sure it's your console you got back? Check the SN.

has your mates mate swapped the consoles?

Checked as soon as the noise started and no

If there was one thing I would never lend out, its the 360, it's too fragile! Take it back to the shops as it's less than a year old.

Which would be quicker online retailer (jersey) or m$ repair

Got mine back from MS in two weeks to the day, so make of that what you will. I suppose you'd have to check with the retailer if they'd let you keep the HD.

Keep in mind that was for 3 red lights. I don't know if MS repairs consoles for what you are suffering from as I haven't had that problem before.

Oh and you're within the one year so I'd rather get a new console from the retailer than possibly be lumbered with a refurb from MS.
