Or 11GB as mine is showing.

Bought yesterday (premium) and my HD is showing as only having 11GB free, has the console taken some (well nearly 50%) for safe keeping or, well, i dont know?!?!?

Cheers.

Some of it is used for the backwards compatibility, around 7gb if I remember correctly.

A fresh drive should have 13GB free on it.

Cheers for the quick response but whats backwards compatibility?

Is that so the original xbox games can play on it, and if you dont have the HD, can you not play them then?

100 percent correct. THe problem is though, the games are done under software emulation, so not all original xbox games work with the 360, which sucks TBH.

Thats crazy!

I take it i cant delete it either?

20GB HD but when it comes its 13GB, shocking stuff.

Surely it should be listed as a 13GB HD with xbox compatibility (unless it is and i just haven't paid any attention) :(

exactly how i felt, why should i be paying for a 20Gb hard-drive when, i'm only getting a 13Gb, shouldn't the price be discounted. I sent an e-mail to microsoft regarding this. They just replyed with the same details that you guys have said.

there is some naf videos and music already on the hard drive. you can delete them to clear a bit of space.

tbh 13gb is plenty

If you delete the videos that come with the hard drive you'll gain another 1 GB straight away. Although as said before, 13 GB is plenty, unless you have your pr0n stored on the HD

13gb is plenty, now. As soon as movie download hits the UK, 13gig is shockingly bad. When HD movie download comes, you will barely fit one movie on the Hard Disk.

Hopefully we will see official 80-120GB xbox drives released when the HD download service comes.

Quick question.

Does the XBOX360 have the function to format the 20gb HDD and restore it back to normal? (i.e. with all the stuff on it, so it would be back to 13gb free)

Im asking as i have a spare 40gb laptop HDD which i could chuck in and format.

Thanks.

Why does the Xbox emulator take up 7GB? That's a huge amount for something that shouldn't need to include any video/sound data. It should be just code.

13 Gb is plenty - absolute tosh, I have over 30Gb of music regularly listened to thats not to mention tv recordings or any other kind of media

Admit it, for the price 20GB is a rip off , no other description and with it actually being only 13GB that just makes it even worse

Yes its too expensive for what it is.

As far as your music collection goes, I just installed the zune service on my PC upstairs which installs media portal so all my music is now available over the network on the Xbox without having to take up any disc space. Well worth trying if you need to reclaim the space or only want 1 place where you hold your library.

But you leave all that on your PC and stream it to the console.

the 20 GB is used for games demos and trailers so it is more than plenty. BTW you are not paying for a 20 GB HDD you are paying for a xbox 360 storage device, that exceeds normal requirements.

Apparently you can fit 4 full HD movies onto the HDD. Not bad imo (esp seeing as they are rented and will auto delete 24 hrs after viewing.)

jesus. What are you using the 360 for, playing games or listening to your 30GB of music? Did you really buy a 360 to listen to music? If you use it as intended then 13GB is a lot. I know 13Gb is nothing if you have to transfer all 200 GBs of your HD pr0n over, but still :)

If you have to do that you could install media connect and stream the music maybe?

Alternatively theres a new software release out now that allows you to plug an ipod directly into the xbox. I'm using it at the moment, its great :)
