Hi all!

Just tried connecting my 360 to a sony 5.1 home cinema jobber, and I can only get sound playing out of the central speaker and the front right speaker.

The wire I am using seems fine (tested on Aego 2.1 speakers) and all the speakers and sub play sound both in the built in test and also when watching dvds through the normal player.

Anyone encountered anything similar?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks for reading!

how are you connecting it is the first question? i connect mine via the audio split off the vga cable, which only gives me 2 speakers (barely) and a sub. iirc the only audio output on the back of the 360 is the optical out so have you tried that?

Hi there, thanks for the reply.

I have just managed to fix the problem.

Beforehand the central speaker was acting as left channel, and the front right speaker as right channel.

After doing something I rarely do (look in the manual, there be dragons!!!) I played around with the 'sound field' option on my AV receiver.

It was set to auto decode, which in this case was setting 2 channel mode.

I switched this to Normal Surround manually, which has fixed the problem.

Hope this is of some use to anyone experiencing similar problems.

I thought there was only 2.0 stereo out of the phono connectors on the X360 and surround only available on the optical out. Am I wrong?

it sounds like your amps converting the 2 channel signal to pro-logic II or something along them lines?

as has been said, to get proper 5.1 DD you need to use the optical out
