360 as htpc?

Out of the box it can play DVDs microsoft video formats, MP3s and display pictures

It can stream all of these from your PC also.

With things like TVercity (I think thats how its spelt) you can get your PC to transcode non-microsoft video formats and play them through your 360.

With Vista or XP Media Center 2005 you can stream TV to your 360 provided you have a TV card in your PC.

It will also play mpeg1, and mpeg2 (including High def .TS files).

From the 7th May (after the dashboard update) it will also support H.264 AVC upto high definition resolutions. I'm not entirely sure on the details, but it will certainly do 720p, and possibly 1080i/p.

If you want to stream Xvid or Divx, you'll need to install a transcoder on the PC you want to stream it from. You'll also need WMP11, XP Media Centre, or Vista on that PC.

I'm quite impressed how the media center extender upscales standard definition sky, compared to sky plugged in via scart, it's easily 10x better.

Lol, just bought one myself and the only reason i got it was as an extender, not interested in games at all (bar Streetfighter 2 which i downloaded off Live, Cool!).
