360 controller making squeaky sound

I wonder if spraying it will work without the need to open it up. One of the screws is underneath the serial number so opening it will void the warranty. I did google it and it seems squeaky 360 pads are quite widespread? 
I bought an original Xbox a few years ago, I've used that pad for must be hundreds of hours, both on the Xbox and on the PC, and it has never squeaked!

I would take it back DD, ive had about 6 and had none squeak from new.
Yeah I'll do that then. Gonna have to post it as it was mail order - what a pain. I hope they reimburse the postage cost.

Was it a wired or a wireless one? The wireless with the pc dongle is awesome 
Wired I specifically wanted a wired one, it wasn't just because it was cheaper.
First impressions are that I prefer the triggers on the old Xbox S-controller to the 360 pad's triggers, but I'm sure I'll get used to them. I wouldn't get used to it squeaking like a mouse though

Yeh you get used to them, they are superior in every way to the old xbox pad.
Not in every way, for example if zombies invaded i would rather have the original xbox pad as a head-clobberin' weapon than the 360 pad
It's great to be able to fire up a game which is designed for the 360 pad, and find that the control assignments are already set up, and vibration works. (I bought it for use on the PC, even though I've posted this in the console forum as I thought there'd be more 360 pad owners in here)
My left trigger squeaked for a while, I just ignored it until it went away.
Can I ask why you went for a wired ? I would never use anything other than wired for my mouse & KB on PC but the wireless controllers for the 360 are Perfect.

This might go away but it might not. You are hearing it almost constantly when playing a game, due to it being the left stick - at least if it was a trigger it would be a bit less frequent.
I have heard the 360 wireless pad doesn't work too well with PCs. But whether it does or not, I prefer the simplicity of not having to charge it up, and knowing that there will be absolutely no latency issues.

Well every time I have finished a session on the 360 I plug my charge cable into the controller & switch the 360 off, The 360 carrys on charging the controller until it's full then turns the whole system off, Next time I pick the controller up it's fully charged.
As for latency issues I haven't noticed any as yet & I've had it a year.

He's getting it to use on his PC, he doesn't have a 360.

I've never had any latency issues.
As for charging, I have the dock charger and two batteries. I simply have one charging in the dock and one in the charger. If it runs out or starts getting low, I just switch them. Simple.
Not having any cables around. Well worth it.
