Hey,

Brother has given me his old 360 as it has stopped reading discs.

If you put a DVD/GAME/CD in it just says reading for a minute or two and then says "open tray"

Anyone had this before and know what the fix is?

I've 6/7 RROD boxes lying around for parts if I need them.

If it's spinning but not reading then maybe the laser's worn out.

Find out which type you have, they're cheap and easy to fix.

Mine's doing the same thing. I was going to throw it away now that the PS4 will soon be upon us. But if it's easy to fix I might have a go.

Take your Xbox apart, find out what model DVD you have and search the bay for the same model. Swap the pcb from your existing drive with the one you bought as a replacement, rebuild your xbox, should work ok again.

That's exactly what a dead DVD drive did on the older Xbox 360 models, I know because it happened to me twice.

You used to be able to get it replaced under the three year warranty they had then, depending on how old it is, and being second hand, I guess that is probably unlikely now.
