360 dvd drive

Looks like my dvd drive is on the way out, the 360 is well out of warranty so I am stuffed in that front.

Am I able to just swap the DVD drive out for another new one?

I think there may be some problems regarding the firmware, but im not too sure. Google it or perhaps someone else will be able to help

you won't be able to do a straight swap. Each motherboard and drive share a specific key. You would need to transfer the key from your current drive to the new one. If you think it is just the laser or drive mechanics then you could simply swap the whole pcb from the drive into the new one (presuming the new one was the same make / model).
