A friend just asked me weather or not u need the remote to watch Dvd's on the 360. So i put Bad Boys 2 in, and find you dont need the remote, so i let him know.

I decided to watch the car chase at the begining (chapter 6 onwards) and find it to be somewhat lacking of quality. :(

It to do with the film? some settings ive missed? or is the dvd playback from the 360 below average?

Any feedback would be great

Cheers

Benny.

If you're playing via component, then that's likely the problem, as the 360 does not upscale via component. Does the DVD look fine playing through a normal DVD player on the TV?

yeh, im using component. Normally i watch films thru my PC and they look crystal clear.

Its watchable dont get me wrong, but it looks like its been blown up/ sort of pixilated at bits, and things dont look smooth, and the colour isnt great.

The 360 does look very bad via component for DVDs, picture was pretty poor on mine. It's apparently a lot lot better on VGA, as that's scaled accordingly.

Playing a DVD on your pc will upscale the image to your desktop resolution, playing a DVD on your 360 thru component will only scale the image to a maximum of 576p, using a VGA cable the 360 will upscale to whatever resoultion you are using for you dashboard. So im my case its 1080p all the way baby :D

While this threads here, got pc and 360 hooked up to hitachi hdtv. Am I better connecting pc to tv via vga or just use pc for dvd playback? Just curious. ;)

only problem with connecting my Xbox up via VGA is my PC uses that slot up! also dont games get a better picture with component? or is that down to opinion? A VGA switch box something to consider?

I use the VGA on a 32" LG running at 1360x768. Been watching lost series 1 lately and it looks absolutley stunning. The colours arent as vibrant as component but the sharpness is much much better.

It does look a bit washed out at first, but ive managed to achieve a happy medium by playing with contrast and brightness settings, the colours are almost as vibrant now, whites arent as brilliant though.

Lot less jaggys in games too.

Edit - yeah a VGA switch box might be somthing to consider if you plan to use vga.

Thanks for the info, got some cash flow problems atm, but shall consider it :)

Same for the moment. Its quieter :D

Don't know why people say this? I think it's considerably quieter when watching DVD's.
Maybe I don't notice it because it's hooked up to my 6.1 surround set-up?

I also use Component but DVD playback looks poor, but how can I get sound via the VGA cable as I currently have the PC sound coming out of my stereo via the red and white audio leads?

If that makes sense?

Plug the VGA sound via your PC if it's always on, else if your stereo has more than one aux input, then go that way.

Nope & nope :(

Pc is too far away and isn't always on. In addition it doesn't have a connection for the leads? (i think).

Stereo only has one set which obviously are being used already. Also I can't stand the though of having to turn the stereo on (in class cabinet) everytime I want to use the 360.

Looks like the VGA route is a no no for me. Annoying as you'd think you could just plug them straight into the TV (especially as it has the connections available) :(

I run my 360 dvd's via my av amp on component. i have to say they are crystal clear. Superb quality. The noise may be an issue for some but not for me.
I can't see the point of getting HD DVD when my SD ones run this well on my HD LCD.
