360 Elite on Ebay

there's probably a way actually, i mean, this is from a friend telling me but he said that the DVD drive of an Xbox 360 is SATA. So if you got a SATA DVD drive, updated its firmware to that of an Xbox360 and slapped it in, wouldn't that work?

My friend said its SATA by the way, i don't know

No, it wouldn't work, you cant just slap in any SATA drive regardless and put a 360 firmware on it.

If you were going to the trouble of doing all that you could just mod the original drive to make it quieter anyway. That's not a discussion for these forums though I'm afraid.

Its a shame that it can't. My wii and ps3 drives are totally silent, dunno if the fact that theyre slot loading drives has much to do with this or not but the 360 drive can be a total pain in the arse when it comes to noise. I dunno why they never seen this as a potential complaint before the system was released.

IIRC the main reason for the 360 drive noise is how fast its spins in certain games. (TDU for example streams from the disc), in comparison the PS3 drive (and the Wii) due to their design spin slower.

As for the 360 elite box above how do we know the back of the box isn't lighter than the front anyway?!

The 360 DVD drives are locked to the 360 via a motherboard hash key. (It's something like that, I had to go through it all when I was changing my DVD drives software)

I thought Ebay banned people from selling consoles before they were officially launched. Or was that just for the PS3 imports?

$4000 (at the moment) just for something 2 days early, and for a console that has already been out for 18 months!
Why?

Black power

Ebayers... Why would one buy a console for (probably) $6000 when, by the time they receive it, they could go to the shop 2 days later and buy one for $500? Hmm should i bid and get myself a bargain?...

I would find it very funny if the winner gets his new toy, raves about being the first person to own one, turns it on and is greeted by the infamous rings of death! :p

No, it will not work but we can't talk about it here.

Or it gets delayed/lost in the post till after the April 29th....

Whats the diffrence with the Elite console anyway? i was shocked that i paid £400 on a console not alone 4K . You can build a PC which ownes the sheeps out of a 360....

Elite is Black (which is the only reason i'd consider one, my bad) has HDMI output and a bigger HDD. As we don't get any films to download on MP the HDD seems pointless.
