360 fan noise

I'm pretty sure this is a Jasper as it has a production date of September 2009 and a smaller power pack?

It likely is a Jasper. Checking the wattage of the PSU would confirm straight away.

I have a Jasper Arcade console and it has the same whine as you're talking about, but I'm fairly sure it comes from the PSU (I believe there is a fan in there). Any chance yours is the same, or is it definitely the fans in the main console?

I'd take it back Fox. In my opinion, it's a fault if you can't hear your DVD movie properly above the noise of your Xbox. My Elite (Falcon) has pretty much silent fans.

I have an Arcade Falcon and when I lay it horizontally it makes a fair bit of noise. When it's stood up vertically on my desk it's hardly audible though. Seems weird but it's the truth. Maybe you could try changing it from standing up to lying down? Although I'd probably just live with it, maybe find a little cabinet or something to put it in to block the noise out? :)

can't the fans be replaced with quiter ones? or that does void the warranty?

It does void the warranty. Plus they may not be any quieter. I replaced my stock fans with talismoon ones, and put a tonne of dynamat in the case for sound dampening. It still drown's out the Hoover. These days it lives in the bedroom (too noisy for lounge) and I use it wearing headphones.

It's really not that simple, and it is not faulty either.

If the fans are so noisy that you can't hear a DVD movie properly, then it's a fault in my view. I'm not saying the fans are faulty (they're just loud fans), I'm saying the whole unit is faulty because you can't do what you're meant to be able to do with it - watch a DVD without having to have the volume full blast to drown out the fan noise.

This implies that all Jaspers are quieter than other revisions which is not the case. It is pot luck. A day 1 360 can be quieter than one manufactured yesterday.

I researched beforehand which retailer had the quiet ones. There is a 360 drive database which people contribute towards whenever they buy a 360 so you can tell what retailers are getting the latest batches. I cannot link to it or the retailer I used but its very well known company which also rents games/movies seems to be the safest bet as majority of their stock is the most recent Jaspers and the staff will even help you check the box for the 12.1a PSU rating without opening it ;)

There is no such thing as a quiet 360.. People who say they have a quiet one have a high tolerence to background noise or maybe they live on a bypass? I really do not know .. These people then go about saying their 360 is quiet which then sets about a ton of people on a wild goosechase looking for the 'quiet' 360...

If you want a quiet 360 then GOOD LUCK is all i can say. Ohhh how i've been down that road....

My previous one was inaudiable. To be fair this one isnt THAT noisy, just louder than the old one. Games and DVD's drown it out.
