A mate is buying a 360 for his son for his birthday and asked for some recommendations for games. He's at that age in between kids games and adult games but if I had to guess I would edge towards the younger style games.

He's getting these with the pack;

Gears of War
Halo 3

I am probably going to suggest the following - any changes, suggestions?

Viva Pinata
FIFA 08
Assassins Creed (he's asked for this one)
Call of Duty 4
Crackdown
Lego Star Wars TCS

If you could add how cheap I should be able to find them that would be great too!

Thanks! :)

It's your friends responsibility of course, but I just thought I'd point out that the age certificates on some of those games are:-

Halo 3 - 15

Gears of War - 18

Assassin's Creed - 16+

COD4 - 15

Crackdown -15

I'm sure those games are not too OTT for a 12 year old, just thought I'd point it out, after posts in the past, about parents buying games for underage kids.

Just thought I'd mention it, as you posted his age is 12, and asked for some recommended games, that are above that 12 age rating.

EDIT: and I'm sorry, I don't wish to come across as some kind of old Nanny. I know mates kids who are younger than the recommended age and love playing GTA on the PS2. Doesn't do them any harm, they're aware it's a game, and don't play it properly, just run around, and drive the cars. It's just that you stated an age, and asked for recommendations, which makes it hard to recommend many games.

Thanks for that - I never even thought about it, not having kids myself! :(

I think he does play/watch 15 and 18 certificates so I guess they already made that decison, but you make a very good point.

Well, I wasn't trying to sound like a busybody, but what with previous threads in here, discussing parents buying adult games for kids, and the media going on about violence in video games affecting kids, it's kind of hard to recommend the "best" games, when you've mentioned the child is 12, without being a bit of a hippocrite, or recommend you illegally buy games for an underage kid.

In reality, I'm sure it doesn't make any difference to the vast majority of kids, especially at 12 and above, but could be better next time not to mention an age ;)

Well no, I think the age is important in this case - I don't personally want to be recommending him anything he shouldn't be playing. I know it's a bit of a joke and not many seem to take notice, but I actually think the certificate ages should be observed.
