360 Guitar Hero II: stuck at sign in screen!

Hi, just bought this game, but I have a problem. I'm stuck at the sign-in/continue without saving screen! When the game loads, I can see the 'Press any button' screen for like a milisecond and then this screen comes up right away. But the problem is that nothing happens when I press the green button on both the X-Plorer guitar controller and my 360 pads. Hopefully the guitar controller isn't busted already...

There was also some update I had to install when I first ran the game, which I did.

If anyone is familiar with this and knows how to overcome it, I would be so grateful because I've been looking to play this game for ages!

Forgot to add that I am signed in to XBox Live, prior to running the game. I have even tried all 3 accounts that I have and I still get this blasted screen

Ok, for some reason, I managed to get past the screen, but only with the pad. I can't seem to select anything from the menus using the guitar If I press the round XBox dashboard button, I can then navigate around with the colored buttons and D-Pad. And when I play a song, none of the colored buttons work! Hope it's not a dodgy guitar...

Update: Ok, I've had a look around and it seems that my guitar model is one of the 2 iffy ones; the model number is 95055 Gonna have to take it back to GAME tomorrow and get a new one

Update 2: Ok, just a min after the last update, I can now navigate fine around the menus. If this continues to work fine, I dunno whether to keep it, or exchange it while I can for a more 'reliable' one.
