360 hard drive

Ahh rite, I was actually thinking more about trading in for an elite. But as long as I can get my gamertag and arcade games back that will be alright, save games I have got stored on a memory card.

Ah well in that case, yeah you can do exactly as you asked. In fact, it's what I did just a few weeks ago when my Premium died.

Couple of things to bear in mind. Some saves can't be copied to memory card, and while you are able to re-download any paid for content, you will be restricted to only using them when signed in to Xbox Live. For most, that's not a problem as the console is always connected to the web, but it's something to keep in mind.

Yeah, the console is always online anyways (when Virgin Media deem it so...)

That's great, thanks a lot for the help and quick replies :)

Dan.

The other minor quirk is if you have anyone else with a local or silver gamertag when they go to play an arcade game it'll just offer them the trial version.

The way round this is to log in with another controller with your profile then they'll get full access again.

If you have a memory card just transfer your gamertag onto it as well, recovering a tag can take quite a while, using the memory card it takes seconds.

Edit: I'm curious as to which saves can't be transferred onto a memory card as I haven't come across one yet.

My Forza 2 save advised it couldn't be copied over. The original Xbox had a similar problem where saves were deliberately locked to their original location. There was at least one other, but I can't think what it was.

Ah, Forza 2 is one of the only ones I didn't move as I'd lost my save a while back when my original hard drive went boom :(

Make sure you get an elite with the falcon motherboard.
As they were in short supply all of the bigger retailers should only have falcon ones now, but check thats its got a 175watt power unit.
It is printed on the box next to the serial no.
