360 has just died

The missus bought me a 360 for christmas, so I opened it just to see if it all worked (she let me play on it for the day, dont want to open it on christmas day and find it doesnt work). The first time I turned the thing on it flashed three red segments and nothing happened. I unclipped the HDD and firmly shoved it back on and the console started up. Setting up the profile, changed the screen settings to 720p and it crashes and flashes three red segments again, restart then everything was fine. From then on its been working fine but am not impressed how flakey it seems to be from new.

Its a brand new one with the HDMI port. As I say its been ok since then and I did play Assassins Creed, Mass Effect and Forza 2 for about 6 hours yesterday and it was fine. Hopefully its ok.

So what do MS do when you send it off? Do they just replace the motherboard, fix the existing one or give you a replacement? I've been lucky so far but I expect it to fail before the warranty is up, it's a design flaw so I'ts probably going to happen sooner or later. Even on the new ones MS only attempt to fix the problem is to 'glue the chip down'.

I believe it all depends on if its viable to fix it. Mine had the 3rod and ms replaced the motherboard (or so they say).

Have decided to use this as an excuse to buy an elite, with a fresh 3 year warranty. ;)

M$ apparently stress you machine for 2 days before sending it back, which is total bull imo as leaving it on for that long would bring it to its knees.

I cant see why it should, its basically the guts of a PC and I have had PCs running with 100% load for weeks on end in the past. Its been stated that its a design flaw so hopefully they have sorted it in this new revision, as selling a product knowingly that has a fundamental design flaw is not very clever.

Ignore the crankies. its a public forum, Its a console section. People have a right to post what they like if its not breaking any rules

Yeh too right! :D

Anyway it's only been a day without my 360 and it's been driving me mad. The thought of having to wait 28 days, or more, was just soul destroying. So today when I was doing some Xmas shopping.......
