hi im hoping this is ok in this forum

im expecting the delivery of my HD drive today or tomorrow so want to go out and buy a movie today so that i can see just how good it is

im expecting that some films will look better than others (where the detail is more noticable etc)

i was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for good films that will look amazing so i can really see my moneys worth

thanks for any advise

hi

yeah i will be sending for my free ones but my drive arrived today and i wanna play with it lol

no dount it will take M$ a while to dispatch the films (despite the fact the address of the offer is in the same postal town as me)

thanks

Check Transformers, Untouchables, Tokyo Drift, Black Snake Moan - those are some of the best looking transfers I've seen on the format so far. King Kong is meant to be also incredible but I've yet to see it.

The 360 HD-DVD drive player is a superb one. Comes with the big long media remote, which is backlit too so very usable. The video/sound quality on the one that I have matches my standalone Toshiba HD-E1.

thanks

some titles for me to look out for when i pop out on my lunch break.

transformers still needs to be imported / got from the bay at the moment doesnt it?

yes it does. afaik

ive just got my HD DVD drive prompted by the new offer i was waiting for and so far purchased

happy feet (for the kids honest)
Hot Fuzz (Great quality i though)
The prestige
The Thing
and some sea water aquarium.

im not expert but i thought hot fuzz looked and sounded wicked.

first time i can honestly say ive sat through every minute of the film :)

loved it

King Kong is still my demo material of choice. Nothing i've seen on HDDVD or Blu-ray quite matches the T-Rex fight or the dino stampede.

Hot Fuzz also looks great - plus it's a great movie :)

yes that is correct it is available in the states at the moment and if it is available the matrix collection looks awesome in hd as well. (there are a few cgi scenes that don't quite cut the mustard but it is a joy to watch and has far more level of detail compared to the dvd).

Also Aeon Flux looks awesome. It may not be the best film in the world but it is a joy to see the level of detail.

Also others that are highly recommended are Serenity, Batman Begins, V for Vendetta (the end scene is amazing) and King Kong.

I am sure there are others as well.

I'm waiting for Matrix Revolutions to turn up so I can watch it and Reloaded back-to-back :)

I'll add Superman Returns to the list.

battlestar season 1 comes out in HD soon :p its either your cup of tea or isnt though.

OP dont go and call microsoft M$ when you're getting £50 of free dvds from them..!
it looks stupid and its just a bit silly isnt it!

Are the Aliens films likely to be seen on HD-Dvd?
I'd love to watch the full cut of Aliens in HD, MARINES WE ARE LEAVING!!

sigh.

im sorry that offends u so much.

Also i havent seen any information to confirm or deny this but would suggest that its more likely the film distributers (the ones that have chosen to support HD-DVD) rather than "Microsoft" financing the dvd offer as a way of pushing the format.

any hoo, thanks very much all for the tips and suggestions im thinking i might go for king kong particularly as i havent seen the film before and it might be one of the cheaper titles due to it being on sale for a while

thanks everyone for your contributions :)

I just cancelled my King Kong order from a jersey store because those pathetic sods have taken 1 month and still haven't got it in. Guess I need to look elsewhere now.

I think the Aliens films are property of Fox pictures, and they are Blu-Ray exclusive, so 99% chance you won;t see them on HD-DVD, unless Fox change camps down the line.

right i popped out to a high street music store at lunch to get some movies and opted for

king kong and 300

probably paid over the odds but wanted them for tonight think all future purchases will be from online sellers or using import sites just so that i get a better deal

looking forward to getting home and giving it a spin now, shame that i have to work untill 20:00
