Hi guys,

My brother in law purchased a premium 360 today and has this TV (Samsung sp-42q2hl1) which is 1080i compatible. When he goes into the settings for the the HD output via component, it;s in 480p and selecting 1080i results in the TV saying there is no signal.

I'm stumped. I've checked the manual ( http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/c...0822094157031_BP68-00457A-03Eng_0713_book.pdf ) but don't know what to suggest to him. Annoyingly, I'm an hour away from home so can't go round and check it.

Make sure that the HD switch on the the cable is switched to HDTV, not composite. I had this problem when I first had mine.

Yea, he had a look at that. I'm pretty certain he has it set to HD, otherwise 480p wouldn't work right? Not sure myself.

Cheers for your help DaveyD :)

He has it connected using the component leads, red green and blue, so definitely using the right connections.

Not sure about 720p, to be honest, I'm not sure the TV does. It just says HD ready, 1080i compatible on the front. Then on the back the component ports say something like 480i/480p/576i/576p/1080i.

From what I can find it's quite a different or old TV, and generally may not like the 360. Ideally you'd really want 720p, but this TV apparently doesn't support it. I'm not too clued up on the specific standards of the HDTVs, sure somebody out there will be.

Cheers for your help mate. Most grateful.

This tv has the same problems as my old slimfit had, it can only do 1080i in 50hz. As the 360 does 1080i in 60hz it will not accept the signal. Lots of things about this on the xbox website. Some people have had there tv's changed. Might be worth a look.

Ah, was thinking something along those lines, being an older TV, just couldn't put it in words for some reason :p

Doubt you'd be able to get around it Mikol, as it's a limitation of the TV.
