360 keeps locking up with disk errors

Hi all

My 10 month old 360, after about an hour keeps locking up then I get a disk error saying clean the disk and restart the console.

Is it a normal fault, will I get it replace at the shop I got it from.

Its POTTY MOUTHme off as I keep losing the place Im at in games like madden 08. 4th quater and crash.

Mine was doing the same so took it back for a no fuss replacement. Definitely take it back.

The other thing you can do (if you didn't have any joy getting it changed by the retailer) is let MS have a go at fixing it while it's still under warranty. The 2 year extension they did was only for 3 red lights problems. You've only got 2 months left of warranty for things like the dvd drive.

I sent mine back to them for scratching disks and bizarrely they changed the mobo and not the dvd drive :rolleyes: However it does seem to have stopped scratching discs. However I just got the 3 red lights last night. Typical.
 
Got mine at Xmas 06, mine is also starting to lock up, but it just locks up, no error messeges and my colsole is flat and the disks always in a case... did it twice the other day, one with C&C 3 and the other with Forza, I was ****** because I was 2 laps from finishing a 30 lap endurance race :(
 
im also getting lock ups in forza2, becoming more regular now, no error messages tho and unit is flat with good airflow around brick and unit :confused:

think im gonna wait to see what happens with the 65nm chips
 
I had to return mine back to MS because of this very fault. I got a new console out of it, and now 2 months down the line the new one is starting to do it too :(
 
I had Open Tray errors and put a little buffer between laser mount and a switch on the drive that advises laser when to stop. This solved the issue. Obviously this voids warranty.
 
My brothers 360 had this problems around march/april I think, just took it back to the place of purchase and got a new console from there, only problem was they lost all saved games.

The new 360 now has 3 red lights and needs taking back again :rolleyes: with that same 360 the pad did'nt work so we had to replace that not long after getting it so now the whole thing has to go back again.

Is there anyway of transfering saved game files via a USB storeage device as I dont think money should be spent on a memory card just to do this, as last time we took it back they would'nt allow the drives to be swoped.

I dont know what is happening to all these 360's as mines been fine since I had it, I bought it 6th of jan 2006 so its 1 year and 8 - 9 months old.
 
I wish I had read you can use USB storage to take save games.

They told me I cant keep the hard drive. So I have lost all my saves.

Looks like I may sell crackdown now. i was on the last boss. I am not doing it all again.

But its been replaced, and the warrenty is from the original purchase date.

Not fair really.
 
I got mine Feb 06 and I've started getting weird freezing where the screen goes in a chequered pattern but I'm not getting any red rings - I take it mine is on the way out?
