I have been using my 360 as a media extender for a while now using winamp and orb, this meant i could watch avi files on my big tv,

Now ever since the last update none of my avi files work through orb ( i presume because it is trying to be transcoded and my 360 is reading it "as is")

Only problem being is that now i can't stop my 360 wanting to run through orb, i have re-enabled sharing in wmp11 and everything but my 360 is still trying to connect to orb, since the new update the computers tab just says i don't have a media centre pc connected and doesn't give the option to set up another none media centre pc anymore :(

Any ideas how i can make my 360 connect to (what it will think is) a new pc on the network?

thanks

Can you remove Orb?

it seems as though, whatever methode of transcode, or whatever method of data source transmission has been associated to Orb, instead of being left open.

I'm not at home so can't check this with my settup (wmp11) but check your admin tools, and check Data Sources. Is tehre any thing in there which rings a bell?

data sources are fine, i think it's just the 360 tbh, it just plainly refuses to even try and look for any other pc's and just keeps trying to connect to orb (which is no longer installed)

Before the last dash update you could just go to computers in the settings blade and choose a different computer, it looks like MS have done away with this in the last update though

Does it make any difference if you change the computer name and IP address to fool the 360 into thinking its a brand new instance?

Also are you on wireless - we had major problems with getting the media connectivity to work on 2 different 360s after the Fall update - both were on wireless and both worked perfectly as soon as connected via cable.

Go to the settings blade(last one) and disconnect from whatever source you had, the orb one, then go back to the video section and choose a new source(media player).

Think that might work, thats what I had to do since the last update and I changed my PC :)

I think the problem is that the last source doesn't actually appear on the settings blade so that you can disconnect from it. If it's anything like the problem we had it just says you are not connected to a computer.

Not come across this before. When I was setting mine up, which I had TVersity installed too. i removed TVersity and then pressed "x" which is the change soruce button.

it then found the PC again, as WMP had been installed and media sharing activated and everything else was just history.

I'd definately give the ip address changed, PC removed and re-added. You could even go as far as removing from workgroup/domain re-scanning before re-adding. or unplugging the PC completely whilst rescanning to fool the Xbox.

This is the problem, as far as i know there is no way of telling it to disconnect :(

Been trying for a while now and it is bloody annoying, in the settings blade it just says that i am not connected to a media centre computer, i know that smart arse

Are you connected on wireless? I'm wondering whether the new update has changed a comms setting for the initial setup as it only worked once we connected via ethernet.

They have removed the disconnect option in the settings blade, and changed it to a pick a source option in the media blade.
When you pick media (photo/music/video), press X and you should then be able to change the source.

I am connected through ethernet and when i go to choose source it comes up as the console or orb, doesnt give me the option to pick anything else
