lil bro has borrowed my DivX player so decided to try and use the xbox instead.

HAving some trouble tho xbox sends me to this page:

www.xbox.com/pcsetup

follow the instructions for XP, Media Sharing, but Im not gettting anything int he list fo devices.

Anyone else had trouble with this?

running the XP standard firewall and thats it, are there any extra ports or anything I need to change on the router?

So are you sharing with Windows Media Connect or WMP 11?

If those two don't work there are other options, Tversity is a good choice but is a pain to setup. Im using the Winamp Remote that comes with Winamp, works far better than anything else I've tried.

Basically, Windows Media Extender is a piece of ****. Plain and simple. It really isn't worth the hassle. MCE on my Xbox 360 won't even play mp3s ripped in WMP11! Funnily enough, opening up the folder as a share and then using the non-MCE music player on the Xbox works fine.

Are you doing this over WiFi? I found that my PC and Xbox would only see each other over a wired connection. You also can't have them on different subnets.

Wired connection, WMP not showing any devices.
The Xbox did give me a code to type somewhere as it would be needed for secure sharing but Ive not been asked anywhere for that.

What other options do I have?
Got a loada music and Videos I would like to stream to the TV.

Well TVersity is streaming music from the pc but doesnt show any videos, the xbox is also only showing a portion of the music files I have, is it limited to directory length at all?

I've always found it quite slow and unresponsive. I found Video playback much better on Playstation 3.

Couldn't you just use a USB stick? I find that the best way as it never causes me any problems.
