360 monitor or hd tv?

Ok so i bought a 360 of my freind ver cheap

its a core and no hdmi. I plugged it in to my 26" hd tv and it looks really bad, if i bought a vga cable for my 19" monitor will it be better or worse. Or using a vga cable on my tv?

its through component it just looks jagged and like squares

can you upscale it to hd?

im going to get a vga as i can switch between my tv and monitor.

Do i need to get an official microsoft one or is it like a hd cable where it doesnt make a difference which one you buy?

Also can i link the sound up from the vga cables (as i see they have a white and red cables) to my 3.5 mm jack speakers?
