Just been playing around with Windows 7. A few changes have been made to Windows Media Center, which now allows it to support h.264 playback directly. This now means that mp4 files will play within the extender function on the 360.
More interestingly is that this seems to overcome the file size limitation, so we can now stream mp4 larger than 4 gb.
