Hi,

Cant get an answer in HD forum.

Could i connect a NAS drive via USB to my 360 while also using the ethernet on the NAS to my wireless router and have access from the 360 and my wireless lappy at the same time?

Anyone else doing this?

Cheers

Jonny

So you'll have the NAS plugged into the router over ethernet cable and also plugged into the 360 via USB and you want to know if the 360 can read from the NAS over USB at the same time as your laptop reads from the NAS over ethernet?

I would think that you can.

Exactly as you say matey, i'm wondering if both ethernet and usb can be used at the same time?

I guess it boils down to the onboard network controller in the NAS, it may allow the USB controller to operate if the RJ45 is connected or they might fight for a network connection, I guess there is no harm in trying it out.

Its just an expensive test if it doesnt work out as i wont want it if it wont do it! :)

Cheers anyway

It depends upon the NAS. Some allow it, some don't if I read correctly. You don't say which NAS it is, but so long as it is plug-and-play and driver less, then the 360 should be fine. The question then is can the device handle both connections at once.

I dont mind what NAS it is matey as i'll buy whichever does it.

Got any recommendations?

Someone in hard drive forum replied to my thread saying they didnt think it was possable?!

To be honest, I don't know what NAS boxes use the USB interface for. I think the only solution is hoping someone has reviewed one and mentions it.

I posted in the HD forum. I think I might be right! In theory, any UPnP file server would do the trick as the 360 uses a common standard!

just thought i'd say a lacie NAS is a no no

Uses a login program to access the usb drive so doubt the 360 could log in plus they cant do usb and ethernet at the same time

Thanks for all the responses guys, if i find a solution i will post it :)

Edit, i think i've found a maxtor 300gb NAS upnp drive for £89.91, maybe the way forward.

I have one from Hong Kong that is driver-less, sadly only one type of connection can be used at any one time, so no good for what you need it for.
