360 noise

Very much so!

Remember: DON'T move the console if a disc is in the drive.

Sort of off topic I know but I've got in the habit of telling this to everyone just because it's terrible if you do :(

Depends on what DVD drive/fans you have. Some 360's like my launch day one are completely silent.

Unless you guys mean the heatsinks that have fluid in the pipes like the Dreamcast had?

I doubt it, that's a definite PR disaster in the making. How would you replenish the water supply when the water goes off too?

They could implement a mid range thermoelectric cooler like dell do in the XPS 720 (half water, half peltier). Lasts for 8 years. No user serviceable parts. A bit on the big side though.

One of the reasons i got shot of mine, sounded like your 52x speed CD Rom going full pelt constantly, and the fact that they were all duff, so got shot before it died to. :p

it was rumoured the 360 would be partly water cooled.

OurColony.net was the 360's viral marketing campaign, and the video released there was the first announcement of the 360. In it they showed the motherboard with 2 guys and one said "watercooled" briefly. Evidently nothing came of it.

Also, don't bother with the third party cooling units, they don't work and make the 360 run hotter!!!

Just make sure its in a well ventilated area free from excessive dust

This weekend Im intending to replace the fans with Talismoon 360 replacement fans and also do a mod which involves sticking a piece of card which channels the air over the gpu heatsnk better. Both apparently will reduce heat inside console and therefore speed of fans and therefore noise of 360 when not doing anything but playing wmv from an external hdd or downloading in the background.

If it plays a DVD or game that it will always be noisy.
