Lovely Wolver-ampton!
what resolution should i use? seems like no matter what i choose, the cars in forza look skinny and unnatural.

also, what referance level should i use?

20" samsung pebble with vga connection if that helps.

Well, the resolution is 1680x1050 on those panels I think, which is 16:10 vs the 16:9 of 720/1080 if that helps.

Yup got it on that now actually. Looks ok car wise. Just trying the diff ref settings to see what looks better. On intermediate atm but assume that enhanced will look best. I've been playing on 1650 or whatever is highest since I got my box a couple of weeks ago. d'oh.

I assume seeing as you are using VGA you have the BW version of the 20" Pebble and not the MW?

Err... No. I get confused with all these ratios.

16:10 is bigger in width than 16:9 ?

So if I run at 1680x1050 I'll have slightly more pixels per inch width ways... so the cars will still look a bit narrow? Mind you - running at highest res cant be that bad if I'm using the incar view...

But wont things like CoD4 look a bit weird?

See. told you I was condfused.

2032bw

The largest option I have is 1920x1080 (which I assume is where the 1080p comes from?)

I dont have a 1680x1050 option.

Well i'd have thought the 360 would display the correct aspect ratio for your chosen resolution, ie. it wouldn't just squash a 16:9 picture to fit a 16:10 ratio if you chose that as an output...

"If you are using VGA or DVI, you must choose from among the following output resolutions: 640 x 480, 848 x 480, 1204 x 720, 1280 x 720, 1280 x 768, 1280 x 1024, 1360 x 768, and 1920 x 1080."

From those, I would say 1280x768 which is 15:9 is probably best.

This is why I bought the MW, so I could just use Component or HDMI :p

You'll find this problem occurs because the panel is designed as a monitor not a TV, and 16:10 for some reason is the commonplace 'PC Widescreen' ratio, while 16:9 is the commonplace 'TV Widescreen' ratio :(

Didnt have the xbox when I bought the screen and never even considered it.

xbox was an afterthought really.

seems like pro of lower res is cars look normal width.... but the negs are loads of jaggy edges and a sort of softer image.

high res gives less jaggy's, clearer image but slightly narrow cars.

gonna try cod4 and see what looks best and go for an average - perhaps 1280x1024 would be a middle ground... we shall see!

Interestingly, reading a review of the VGA cable on Team XBox, they opted for 1280x1024 on a 1680x1050 Dell panel, so that may well be the way to go!

I guess if you're selecting a 'smaller' res output from the 360 e.g. 1280 x 1024 on a higher res panel, you need to change the settings on the panel to display 1:1 pixels or whatever it is?

Meaning, the smaller image will be in the centre of the screen with borders, rather than being stretched.

Definitely. Played a bit of CoD4, PGR4, Forza2 and Tony Hawk's Proving Ground.

Combination of good looking image, right size and look. Seems fine.

Thanks for assistance.

What about on a 24" monitor that can run 1920x1200? also what cable would be best for this (DVI and Analogue imputs available).
