Hello,

Is it pointless getting a 360 to play on a normal non hd tv? TV is a 32" Toshiba, couple years old. It would be the intention to upgrade to a HD in the future. Also, given the 360 was released in 2005 how long can the games continue too look good?

Thanks,

Dave.

I've played 360 games on a small 14" CRT over composite-to-SCART and considering the generic, cheap TV that it is - I was fairly impressed. I would go ahead still and get the 360, should you upgrade in the future you'll see the difference.

It's the difference bewteen playing the game and being part of the game. :D

But seriously your SD screen would still do.

I play mine on a standard Sony. Looks great & will do anyone till they get a HD.

My old man plays his on a SD telly and loves it....He does comment on the difference when he see's me playing mine on HD when he visits but he's happy enough :D

If you've never seen the light and beauty of HD, then playing in SD will still seem really good as you wont have high expectations. Just don't go play on your friends HD screen after buying the 360 as it'll kill the experence for you. :D

Thanks for the info, will hopefully upgrade to HD before too long. Just need to find a decent deal on the console, guess i'm about a day too late. Although I have found the console on its own for £229 which seems ok.

Arcade can be had for £149.99 online if you don't need a HDD right away :)

Unless it's a very high spec TV I'd imagine you're using the composite portion of that (Yellow for video then Red/White for audio) which will look absolutely terrible no matter how good the screen is.

The 360 with the official RGB scart cable on a half decent CRT will look very good, but as others have said a good HDTV will blow that out the water.

Halo 3 is easier on the eyes on an SDTV, but generally, you will do just fine regardless of your television. Yaboy, that's a terrible SDTV you have there, my old one didn't look anywhere near that bad. I can even see the lines and phosphor dots!

Nope, it's not pointless at all. It'll still look very good on a CRT TV. Especially if you hook it up using an RGB Scart lead.

As for the games continuing to look good...I'm expecting them to get better and better as developers learn new techniques to allow them to run better quality graphics without sacrificing performance.

That's one thing I love about console gaming...the games generally get better as the console gets older. As the 360 is going so well at the moment, it should mean good times ahead :)

That explains the shocking quality then. Use an RGB Scart lead.

BTW...you're using the composite connection. Component is high def.

While I believe he is using composite on a terrible TV component connections do still exist on SDTVs. The Wii uses component for EDTV so it's not just for HDTV signals.

Having played the 360 on a standard SD 37" TV for around 4 month I was still imprest. The text was blury on most games but the graphics were still good.
Now having upgraded to a 40" HD tv, the games just look a lot more crisp and perfect :). Ide say its still worth buying the console :).

The 360 looks fine on my old 28" Sony Widescreen (that's probably ten years old) and will continue to look fine until I can afford the all spesh and sparkly HD :)
