Righto guys and girls,

I'm looking to get one of the aforementioned consoles but i'm really not sure which one. Need some help swaying me to one side or the other.

PS3: Owned a PS1 & PS2 and i'm really used to the way the controls work. The line-up of games (MGS4 amongst others) looks to be getting a lot better and with the added incentive of a blu-ray drive it seems like a good buy. I also like the idea of the whole sims style network where you can chip about with your virtual character on the PSN. I can't say I have had a chance to play one yet but it looks very fun and as mentioned earlier, with some of the games coming out it looks to be a very exciting console for the future. I unfortunatly seem to have a habit of buying consoles right before they die (i.e. Dreamcast & Xbox).

360: A few of my mates own this console so it would mainly be used for online play. I also had an Xbox and got really into the Halo series of games, I played abit of 3 co-op at my mates house but never had the chance to really get into it. It seems like a fairly interesting console but the look and feel of the PS3 interests me more. I just feel i'd have a much better community experience playing Pro-Evo with my mates rather than playing single-player 360 games. The Live subscription fee however is a put off.

All advice is appreciated however I do not wish to start a fanboy war here. I just want your opinions on what you think would be the better choice and why.

Cheers

Their both fantastic consoles so you can't really go wrong, neither are going to 'die' any time soon. If you can't have both then it really only comes down to choosing the one which has the games you would enjoy the most.

Seriously, this question has been asked 1 million times in the forum.

Answer really is:

Do you care about blueray?

Online gaming your main thing (360's is better even though you have to pay, and I own both consoles BTW)

Which games do you prefer now

Which has games you prefer in the future

One possible reason for 360 now, more games available right this second, and the console is very cheap.

Can only give my opinion on the 360 here having not owned a PS3, (Although contemplating getting one) the online experience on the 360 is great, fully worth the cost of live in my opinion.

Some great games like COD4 and Halo 3 for multiplayer, and there are some brilliant single player titles as well.

Live has a great selection of arcade games, which work out pretty cheap to buy.

You will easily get use to the controller on the 360, very easy and comfortable to handle.

Th incentive on a bluray player on the PS3 is what is tempting me at the moment, as HDdvd seems to have gone down the pan, not sure if microsoft will manage to wangle some way of getting blue ray on the 360, would be good if they did.

Do you enjoy playing on your friends 360s? The community experience seems important to you so I'd guess 360. The 360 does seem to have a decent back catalogue too.

I actually strongly considered getting a 360 (and will consider again probably for the odd exclusive) but went for the PS3 - I particularly enjoy some of the games on the ps store, as well as the free PSN. It's also the inclusion of a hard-drive as standard (downloadable content for UT3, quicker loading times than they would be when being read form the disc). Plus, the quietness of the console when I'm playing late at night, early in the am when other people are needing to sleep, need quiet :). I'm also very much looking forward to the final fantasy games (a long way off I suspect) and MGS, but I do wish the PS3 had a Project Gotham type game (Ridge Racer will have to do for my arcade racer fix), and an achievement system (one is coming for the ps3, consisting of trophies - it's actually having those little goals to aim for that can keep me in a game a bit longer).

I suspect it's gonna be impossible to avoid some fanboyism - I suspect some people think if they 'market' their choice of console enough it will bring more exclusives, better content from a bigger market share or something. But then I'm happy to play old games on old consoles that are no longer available first hand (my dc, though it's probably a bit dusty atm).

I think really though, if you enjoy playing online regularly with people you know (friends etc) then that's gotta influence your decision. If you're only *thinking* about which console to get and there are no games *out now* that you want then maybe hold back a little bit and see what they each have to offer in a month or so's time?

Lets make it 1,000,001 then :p

Not right now, but I do feel that having the PS3 would be handy if I ever decided to buy Blu-Ray discs.

Online gaming your main thing (360's is better even though you have to pay, and I own both consoles BTW)

I wouldn't say its my main thing, I do really enjoy good single-player games, especially RPG's. This is an area in which I believe the 360 has been lacking until recently.

Which games do you prefer now
If I was to get either console Assassins Creed would probably be one of the games at the top of my list. As would Pro-Evo.

Which has games you prefer in the future
Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy Series, Gears of War

Thats a very good point, and one of the main reasons I am considering a 360. Anything that is more financially viable can only be good!

Your better looking through all the posts that have already been made regarding this topic. Nonetheless, I have both consoles and I'll give you my opinion.

PS3: MGS4 looks like it will be the best yet and if your a fan of the MGS series this is a must buy. Free online, quiet console, in game XMB is hopefully going to arrive soon along with home which in my opinion makes paying £30 for live unjustified. Great exclusives coming this summer, not to mention Uncharted as an exclusive. The XMB interface is superb, you can skip from videos to music in the click of a button. There are plenty of games, maybe not as large a selection as 360 but enough to keep you busy and happy. I think with GTA4 coming out and MGS4 the no games argument is silly now. I also think LittleBigPlanet could be a potential GOTY.

360: Already has a fantastic game library, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Halo 3, Gears of War are all must owns. Hardware wise I hate it, it's too loud and my discs scratch every time I take them out. I'm not renewing my £30 subscription to Xbox Live when I can get (probably) the same experience on the PS3 in a few months. Their DRM is a complete mess, I had to spend a month of phone calls to get points refunded. I think trying to find stuff on the marketplace is a mess. Even the optical port on the back of mine is wobbly. It has some great games coming out this year, however in my opinion I don't think they are as strong as the PS3 lineup.

Having said that though, look past the negatives and you can have a great time with some of the games. It's cheaper as well, but I think the PS3 is worth the money.

EDIT:

Okay after reading your posts; don't get PES for the PS3 or 360, it's complete crap this year unless you can pick it up for £20 or something. FIFA is good and many people say it's better but having played it for a month I think it's still not quite there.

I think you should get a PS3. You like the exclusives on it and you said online isn't a huge thing for you. I'd get Uncharted over Assasins Creed and wait for GTA4. Buy COD4 as well. There are many RPGs that look great coming out this year, like White Knight Story.

It's just my opinion and they will vary on these boards. Honestly though, have a look around and see what games you like.

I'd go for PS3, especially now blu-ray has won the format war.

My xbox is too noisey and I don't think having to pay to play online is right.

Quite the opposite. RPGs are my favourite genre and the 360 is the only choice right now.

360: Enchanted Arms, Phantasy Star Universe, Eternal Sonata, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Two Worlds, Mass Effect, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, Oblivion, FFXI

PS3: Enchanted Arms, Oblivion, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, and some would argue Folklore.

If I was to get either console Assassins Creed would probably be one of the games at the top of my list. As would Pro-Evo.

I loved Assassins Creed and it's as good on each console as is Pro-Evo (though everyone keeps telling me Fifa 08 is the best.

Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy Series, Gears of War

MGS ~ PS3 exclusive (rumours of a possible 360 release sometime in 09 ~ doubtful if I'm honest)
FFXIII ~ Little is known other than it won't be out this year. Down as a PS3 exclusive but is being written with the White Engine (which is known to be multiplatform). Again doubtful but SE and MS are becoming quite the friends.

Square Enix are releasing Last Remnant this year for both 360/PS3 and Infinite Undiscovery which is a 360 exclusive. Hironobu Sakaguchi the FF creator who split from Square formed Mystwalker with MS and he oversaw both Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey (above). He has Cry On due out this year (another 360 exclusive) though little is known about it yet.

GoW2 ~ Will be published by MS this fall.

My 2p.

Well had my new 360 for nearly 2 weeks now and I've got to say getting rid of my 360 was the stupidest thing I've done in a while. (Got rid of it December 07)

Getting back on Xbox Live laughing with friends with _voice_ chat (which hardly anyone on PS3 does) having banter/arguments with random people and taking the mick out of squeaky voices...well it blows the online experience of the PS3 out of the water. I am also loving the achievement system once again.

So really, if I had to choose I'd keep my 360 and buy a PS3 later on, though I do have both so it's a bit of a mute point. Started Mass Effect at 3am last night, played it until 1pm this afternoon then went to bed, what a game. (Didn't give it a chance last time, framerate annoyed me)

360 definetly, Gears 2, Fable and halo 3, mass effect etc right now. Also the online experience is unmatched and the current PSonline is crap, also doesn't allow music to be played mid game.

Hi,

I recently made the move back onto consoles (had a 360 before) and i went with the ps3, build in HD/Wireless sold it for me.

However if your mates have 360s why not get a cheapy arcade or pro console until Sonys big titles come then get a ps3 if you still fancy one ?

As i have owned both there isnt much between them tbh no matter what ppl say i would be happy with either :)

Both consoles you will be happy with im sure, 360 is a fair bit cheaper if money is an issue but PS3's are 260 in the big catalogue store now. Highly doubtful that MGS4 as it is will ever appear on the 360, its filled a 50Gb BD and i wouldn't want to guess how many DVDs it would take as data would need to be duplicated i guess. FF13 and versus 13 are both confirmed PS3 exclusives, SE are only publishing infinite undiscovery its being made by another developer (cant remember who). There maybe a spin off FF13 game that may appear on the 360 at some time a bit like crystal chronicles and the FF12 game on the DS though. The community aspect of live is great but no one knows what will happen when PS3's Home arrives in the summer/Autumn in terms of community. As your mates have 360's then that is a big plus, but will they always only have a 360? Maybe you should show them the way and get a PS3 :) Anyway whichever console you decide on, im sure you'll enjoy it, but make sure its your decision though and you purchase it for the reasons that you want it for.

Ive owned both and own a ps3 now, i honestly think the 360 has more games out mainly due to the fact it was released faster, best game i played on any console is Uncharted on the ps3 i was blown away by this game unlike gears of war on the 360 which i thought was hugely over hyped.

The ps3 for me is the better built console and is so much quiter and as said is blueray important to you ? if so then your choice is simple.
