360 or PS3!?

360 Hates: Now where do I start? Build quality is equiv to that of a cheap Chinese toy. The heat and DVD spin noise is unbearable for me to the point that I no longer bother with retail games, only XBLA. If you have a taste for quality then steer well clear of the 360 as it'll annoy the ***** out of you!

Just thought I'd warn you to star the sweary :)

Not sure I can take anyone who plays down the 360 noise seriously :D
My PC has a total of 7 fans (one is 200mm wide) and is still much quieter than the 360.

OK - first decision is whether you want blu-ray .... now? Personally, even if I had one, would not be buying blu-ray titles (as I never really bought DVD's). Most of the hi-def stuff I am interested in is played using a different player (HTPC or Sky HD etc.)

If you answer yes, the PS3 all the way.

If you are not fussed .... 360 without a doubt. AND NOT BECAUSE ITS BETTER! I am tired of reading these threads. This is totally a much of a muchness. 360, much cheaper and more titles. PS3 fewer titles and much more expensive. 360 much larger community, PS3 smaller community. There are games on PS3 better than 360. There are games on 360 better than PS3. Hardware spec - bit like PS2 vs. Xbox 1. PS2 came out first, Xbox arguably better console ... PS2 much larger fanbase, popularity etc etc .... although it did not stop people chosing Xbox over PS2. I think its role reversal this time round, although PS3 has not developed to be visually better ... yet. Although a new xbox will come along that will be better .... and then back to the forums for a good old fanboy rant ;-) I have played/seen both on massive Sammy screens and its is horses for courses!!

Online - sorry, but lets be honest here, the 360 online experience is miles better but thats because is much more established. PS3 give it a few months ... gonna be the same.

360 does have the rewards/achievement system which is a nice addition to gaming.

You can get a xbox 360 with two brand spanking new titles and an extra controller for a little over £200. A mate of mine bought a PS3 from Game (on a weekend they had a special on, about 2 weeks ago) and once he had picked up 4 titles (some bundled in - of which only one is really an brand new title, rest are semi old) and an extra controller he had spent £440. Imagine having £240 to spend on games after buying a 360.

But then hey, if most of your mates have got a PS3 .... you are hardly gonna buy an 360 now are you!?!

Just buy what most of your mates have got, sort out the blu-ray thing in your head and just enjoy whichever you choose. They are both cracking machines with some seriously tasty gamage! :)

You failed to mention the noise issue.. Surely for many this has to be taken into consideration...

Be gone PS3 fanboy .... ;)

Give it up ... you seriously after reading above would not buy a console because its too noisy, what if 9 of your mates had one and all played online, you not gonna get one!?! Big telly, big speakers ... what you gonna have it on mute? Besides, both consoles have some noise issues of sorts. 360 is noisy at certain times, but then the PS3 is no whisper. Midway through a quiet scene of a blu-ray movie and as its been on for a while, the fan kicks on? Seriously mate, the only reason anyone will give it the 'noise argument' is totally based on the fact they either own a PS3 and are a 'fanboy'. They are both awesome consoles .. :)

360 is noisey ALL THE TIME! Its too noisey on the dashboard, its too noisey watching films and its insanely noisey playing games.

I own a 360, its not great.

Haha, He's a fan boy because he considers the noise a factor. Give me a break.

The fact is, It's noisy, The fact is not everyone wants to have their TV on loud enough to drown out the sound it makes. ALso in movies and games, You have scenes of quiet, or silence, Which are completely disturbed by whurrr of the 360. Look around, Lot's of people hate it. ANd it's the main reason once I've got the PS3 setup, I won't be streaming anything through my 360, and it will only be used for gaming.

I've never had it make any serious noise with the 40GB model, even with extensive use and with films and its usually on most of the day. My PS3 is as quiet as my actual DVD/VCR player. It hardly makes a peep.
If thats happening to others, it isn't getting ventilated very well. As most know it kicks up when its getting too hot. If well ventilated, its whisper quiet.

This was one of the main reasons I never went for the 360. I don't want a hovercraft drilling away in my room while I game in the early hours of the morning. Yeah, you can really pump up the speakers etc to get rid of the 360 noise at 2 - 3AM ¬_¬

When I use the PS3, the only noise I can hear is the optical disc reading, and thats not very often. Some games the disc reading spins a lot, the worst it seems to be is with Fifa08, as its loading a full game. Though its still not loud. Not even close to the 360 for how I use the PS3.

I guess me saying this though, I'll be called a PS3 fanboy. Considering before I even thought of getting a PS3, it was the 360 I was initially going to go for. Until I done a lot of research on both.

I'm not trying to preach what's better, but at the end of the day. It's what was better for me.

Playstation 3's shift hotter air (heat) than an Xbox360.
If he has a taste for quality he'll love the control pad, Xbox Live, the games and dashboard integration.

Not on my 360 it doesn't... I have two ps3's and my 360 pumps more heat out then both of them put together !

It actually raises the temp of my room to an uncomfortable level after a 360 gaming session. Living in England it's probably a welcome to have that little extra heat,, but in any hot climate its a royal pain up the ........

Each to their own bout taste for quality, by all means. But I think 9 out of 10 would say the interface on the ps3 is far superior to that of the 360.

Hardware quality wise,, I would hazard a guess at around 100%

I think you're in the minority there then thedoc46. Every PS3 I've ever been around pumps a ridiculous level of heat out.

I never said anything about Interface, I said dashboard integration (i.e. the ability to use your systems features whilst in a game, which you can't on PS3).

I would agree with the PS3 being a better piece of hardware, I have never said otherwise. Although I have had 2 PS3's break compared to one Xbox360.

Bottom line is, no matter which console you go for you will be happy for quite a while.

Little things annoy me about both consoles. I personally find some things on the PS3 to be sorely lacking, mostly to do with the online department. The whole experience basically crumbles compared to the xbox 360. Not even access to the dash features by press the guide (I am sorry, the PS button) really bug me for example.

BUT - having said that, the 360 really are having a nice slice of that humble pie at the moment, especially over BluRay, and the reliability needs to be improved (not had problems personally, a few friends have though).

Honestly, if I look at a lot of games I want (resident evil, alan wake, alone in the dark, blah blah) they are coming on both consoles (and in some cases the PC too).

Really it then goes down to exclusives.

Halo I don't think is hat great. I enjoy Halo, especially the first one, but I don't think it is as great as some make out. And Forza (IMHO) is not a Gran Turismo Contender.

Then again, GOW for example on the 360 is simply fantastic. Really depends at the moment for me, if I could only own one console for the time being, I would get a 360 (probably). Ask me that question in 6 months, it might change.

I don't think my oppion of happy that I own both will change though. I am really quite looking forward to MGS I must say, and other games on the PS3 like Resistance make me a very happy camper.

The 360 I have really loved too, Mass Effect, GOW, and even some of the games that not many people enjoyed (Perfect Dark for example) that was released on launch I loved :)

Every PS3 I've ever been around pumps a ridiculous level of heat out.

The 40's run much more efficient with it's 45nm CPU. I do believe the 60 and 80's are big burners.

It's on the way though.

Anyone seen what's coming for the PSN store overhaul?

Sony has officially confirmed that the PlayStation Store will be getting a facelift in mid-April, and there will be no new updates until this happens.

"Content will be suspended for two weeks while the improvements are carried out but users can look forward to a special update in mid-April," Sony said today.

We have got three official screenshots of the Store running on PS3 to tide us over, however.

It's getting "a whole new look and feel" and this is "in response to feedback from the millions of PSN registrants in the PAL region" in a survey last year.

Apparently we wanted a "better interface and easier navigation".

So, the store is being renovated behind the scenes, but you can still use it for stuff that's already up there, and PSN accounts and wallets won't be affected.

And for the record, when we spoke to Sony just now, a spokesperson said there was no news on any changes to the PSP Store for PC, so we can assume this is all PS3 for now.

Save up enough money and buy both! Dont be one of these **** you some times get who thinks they have a right to **** off a rival console when they only have one!

Looking at videos online games don't seem to perform that much better or worse on either the PS3 or the 360 and because you can sometimes pick up preowned 360 games up for less than a tenner I bought a 360.

I love value for money. I thought everyone did.
