May 16, 2006 - April's Hardware and Software figures for the US have been released ad it reads very well for Microsoft. The Xbox 360 was the top selling hardware for the month, selling 295,000 units. The PS2 sold just 205,000 units.

Thats impressive if sony lose the US they got problems

i simply dont understand how the PS2 still sells? especially with the PS3 on the horizon, and a next gen console already out?

then again i hated the PS2 so i dont see why anyone would want one.

Well the fact the ps2 is so cheap probably goes along way to it, i mean they almost free with cerials now ;)

PS2 just had a price cut to $129 in the USA, so that's why it might be selling quite well. :dunno:

Perhaps its brand loyalty.. that and they break down loads (well the old fat ones did!)
i've had my "old fat one" for 3 years or so now... it hasn't died yet... i've even got the settings turned up to increase disc read speed and that graphical thingy that SLIGHTLY improves graphical performance... no problems here at all...

the 360 outselling a console thats now has been around for so long, isn't really that remarkable tbh...

also, kids/parents are more likely to buy a PS2 than any other console... its a household name, its something more parents are familiar with than an Xbox or a 360... reguardless how old it is...

Well a lot have died so it's not surprising people are still buying them.

How'd you do that?

It only improves GFX on PS1 games played on a PS2.

Blurs the textures to make them look less blocky and other stuff like that :)

Oh right, I knew about that. I thought maybe there was some hardware tweak that I didn't know about. n00b  :p

no no... just the tweaks you can do when the ps2 is loaded without a game disc inside :)

should have worded myself a bit better in my earlier post :o

the disc read speed does however effect all discs (as far as i know anyway) that are put into the console... it increases loading times a little, and mainly makes between menu accesss (i.e. moving between menus in games, think something like Smackdown vs. Raw - shed loads of menus that don't appear instantly) a bit quicker too.

i think it does effect some games from the ps1 badly though (crashing)...

i haven't looked into this too much as i actually found this out myself, while drunk... playing guitar hero... loaded it up without the cd in and tried to work out what the colours were - found myself in a menu with discread speed and something about graphics lol

so i'm just speaking from my own personal observations.

quite suprised to see the 360 higher than the cube on that list, yes i know its "NEXT GEN " but the games aren't really marketed towards the japanese market (are they?)
also would have thought the PSP would have been a bit lower too...

I can't believe 205,000 people bought PS2's...

Biggest gaming countries, I believe goes USA > Japan > UK.

Quite surprising considering our size! Western Europe as a whole is also bigger than Japan.
