Had my 360 Elite for a few years now, it's started acting weird, few weeks back it was on standby, and the disc drive just started opening and closing, sometimes it wouldn't even have time to open or close fully before it was doing it again. Just unplugged it and leftit as I hardly used it, went to use it again yesterday as I've got two new AC games I want to play, in the middle of playing it started doing the disc drive thing again, and now the eject button and the power button on the front, don't work. Anyone got any ideas? I've taken it apart and blew it down, including the disc drive, but no luck. New 360 time?

Sounds like it.

The new slim ones can be had cheap enough now.

Saying that I have just read this (if you are happy to give a little DIY fix a go):

"I had the exact same problem and I know how to fix it!!!!

First of all the problem is that the magnet attached to the cd drive has become detached and is stuck to the top of the cd drive casing.

Look up on youtube how to disassemble your xbox. (you will need a set of star drive wrenches, kinda like an allen wrench but a bigger pain in the ass to get)

Once you have taken apart your xbox360 remove the dvd drive. Use a phillips head screwdriver and remove the casing around the dvd drive. you should see a tiny (smaller than a dime) magnet attached to the roofing of the dvd drive case. The magnet fits ontop of the dvd drive motor. Super Glue it back to the dvd motor and tada your xbox works again!
