I have a 360 with a 40gb (maybe 20) harddrive on the top, its an older model (with hdmi) that I have owned for a few years now.
Recently it has been playing up a treat and wondering if its worth me just ditching it.

The problems:
* Last weekend I had 2 RRODs , left it for about 1 minute and it booted up again.
* playing sc5 7/10 times it will hard crash before i finish all 3 rounds - other times i can play fine for hours
* dashboard takes ages to load (around 1 minute)
* few nights back the dashboard wouldn't load at all after about 5 mins this happened a few times.
* sometimes it will lock up just before the 360 startup video finishes.

So is my 360 on the way out? or is it the Harddrive? is there anyway to tell if my hdd is failing?

I ask as im thinking of getting a 4gb slim and just sticking the old one in it with the neccessary adaptor.

thanks.
M.

Take the HDD out, that'll tell you if it is the cause. I'm pretty sure you'll only have 20GB, as I don't think they did 40GB.

As you've had RROD, expect it to get worse, and will probably eventually give up the ghost completely and refuse to do anything but RROD.

Two RROD normally mean that the Xbox is overheating.

THINGS TO TRY

Let the Xbox 360 console cool. Note You may have to wait several hours for the console to cool enough. Do not turn on the console when the console is hot.
Verify that the console has sufficient ventilation and that the fan is operating.

PREVENTION SUGGESTIONS
To try to prevent this problem, use the following precautions:

Do not block any ventilation openings on the Xbox 360 console.
Do not put the Xbox 360 console on a bed, on a sofa, or on any other soft surface that may block ventilation openings.
Do not put the Xbox 360 console in a confined space, such as a bookcase, a rack, or a stereo cabinet, unless the space is well-ventilated.
Do not put the Xbox 360 console near any heat source, such as a radiator, a heat register, a stove, or an amplifier.

If you haven’t already opened up the chassis, then try some compressed air shot through rear vents, aiming in direction of each heat sink to clear any compacted dust blocking air circulation.

Your be suprised how much dust can build up over time within older xbox360's.
