I hate to make another thread regarding the 360's 3 lights/replacement issue, but I have looked searched and I can't find what I'm after.

I'm thinking of picking up a 360 seconhand, but the seller doesn't have the receipt. Obviously I wouldn't be able to get a replacement from the store as I have no proof of purchase, so would it be a straight call to MS? I understand it's the retailer's resonsibility so I don't want to be left with a dead console and MS refusing replacement and pointing me towards the retailer.

Basically I want to know that if the worst happens, will MS replace the console?

With all the Live bans going on aswell mate i wouldn't touch a 2nd hand 360 with a 20ft pole.

I think MS will tell you to bolt unless it is less than 12 months from the manf. date, but like i said, cos of the bans, i wouldn't chance it.

Haven't quite a few people received replacements after the 12 months? I remember reading a couple of threads a while back. They ended up having to get pretty shirty though I think.

How much are you saving compared to a new one?

Its your money so if you're happy to take the risk...

Yeah I know it's very risky but £250+ is just a little out of birthday present territory :(

Would the issue of banned consoles still apply to buying a secondhand console from a retail store? I've noticed some bargains in some stores.

£150 for a brand new 360 (email in trust if you want link, I got one), granted that's a core but you don't need a hard drive, only if you're interested in getting demos and videos...etc
That can easily wait though and you could get a hard drive later I did because 360 Premium was sold out at launch, got a HDD a few months later.

and yes it would Zefan, my friend traded his 360 in for about a 120 quid odd in ***E the other day. (Banned from Live)

I wouldnt touch a used 360 without a reciept, now with the lock down I'd want a signed bit of paper to say it wasnt live banned as well.

I picked up a used premium on the forums yesterday, £240 fully boxed with receipt (brought in jan 2007) with 5 games (GoW, PGR3, TDU, Pro Evo 6, GRAW) and a play and charge kit.

Am very happy :D

I would imagine that if it was already banned when you bought it then the retailer would have to replace it as it's 'not fit for purpose'.

Only from the retailer, using the SOGA, not from MS. Since you wont have a receipt or any form of proof of purchase then you will be at the hands of MS.

Even 2nd hand from a store would be a bit iffy, as i bet not all if any are checked for Live bans, least at the moment. And i would speak to the st0ore in question about the procedure if the console is banned from Live, as proof is gonna be iffy there.

I got my replacement core for 199, with mem unit and 2 games. So youdon't really need anything else at the moment. If you got a stonking 2nd hand deal you could always get it and trade it in against a new one lol
Would they do that? hmmm

Wow, just looked around and there are some amazing deals :| i think I'll just buy new, saves so much hassle and risk.

Hopefully I can persuade my Dad to go half and half with me on a £264.99 deal, afterall they are spending £15000 on my sister this summer.

cant u get a brand new core for 149.99?

Could you not just fix it yourself, it only costs about £7 for the parts from B&Q and is really easy. Works for about 95% of consoles afaik. Tempted to pickup a bunch of knackered ones off ebay and fix em up to sell.
