Well it was bound to happen sooner or later, and luckily it died with just 3 days of warranty left to run!! This was a very early console (Mfg 3rd Oct 05).
Sudden 3 red lights during gameplay, which now repeats every time after 10-30 seconds of powering on, was in the middle of a good R6 session aswell! Have left it for a long time and still no joy.

Anyway, I just have a quick question - I'm going to return it to the place of purchase which was a (the?) major high-street shop for consoles & games. I have my receipt and all original packaging/manuals/antistatic bags etc etc. Ideally, I'd like to return it and pay the difference to have a premium system (this is a core) as I could use an extra wireless controller etc etc.
My question - has anybody successfully done this, or does anyone have any idea whether this will be allowed by the shop? Its not the end of the world if I cant, but I only bought a core last year as premiums at the time were rare to say the least! :)

Thanks for any help/advice!
I've got to go and find something else to keep me entertained tonight now lol....

I suppose you can ask for a refund or vouchers as it is faulty, then buy the premium. I'm not sure though, wait until someone like VIRII who knows his stuff to confirm.

Thanks for the reply - managed to have the console replaced today after an argument that seemed to last forever and caused quite a scene in the shop.

The manager of the store claimed that their store policy was to not replace them and that I must do it via microsoft. After I politely explained that his store policy does not override the law he went off on one saying the management refuse the right to serve anybody etc etc, this went on for a while and it was not until I threatened to call consumer action and the stores head office that he agreed to replaced it for me. At this point I then mentioned that I'd like it replaced with a premium too :)

I wonder how many people must just accept this nonsense and walk out of the store? Its really bad and I am going to write a letter of complaint to head office. I'm guessing its because returns/replacements do not make the store any cash, so they're less willing to do it.

Nice one. ******* like that ***** in that shop really ******* annoy me with their ******** store policies. They simply do not know the law and think that their ******* store policies are the be all and end all.

Scratch one up for the little guy. I'm chuffed for you.

Thanks, thats exactly how I felt in the shop :)
So frustrating when you know you're right yet the ignorant manager on a powertrip thinks he is some sort of superpower with his nonsense 'in store policies'.

On a side note the new 360 is far quieter than my previous one?! bonus!

Well done dude!
I know what you mean, yet most people just take this and walk out! I always through the SOG act at them, (have even had it on paper in my hand a few times) and just cause havoc in the store till they give me what I'm entitled to!
