The kids got the 250Gb model kinect for crimbo, my question where the big fan on the top is located it's getting extremly hot and heating up the entire top of the casing, Is this normal or something i need to worry about/possibly return to the store. it does get mighty hot never felt anything so hot in my PC before

It does get quite warm, yes. I'd only worry about it if you start to see problems with the console itself; no shop will refund/replace it just because it gets hot, unless there are other issues along with it.

Yeah it's fine. I got worried when I first got mine too but it just pushes a lot of heat out of the box. As long as it's in a decently ventilated area it shouldn't have any problems.

same as mine m8 -- my kids is sitting on its own beside a window and she plays its all the time

nothing to worry about hers (my kids ) gets extremely hot after a hour
(she has the 4 gig model with kinect )

The 360S has a thermal shutdown to prevent overheat damage so if you haven't seen that you can assume it's operating normally.

My standard 360 used to get baking hot in the cupboard under the TV, so I took the back off the cupboard. Sorted.

Mine is on top of a small bookcase so it doesn't really get hot, just gets a bit warm. The more annoying thing I find with them in the drive noise, I've only got a 4GB so I can't install games to HDD. Going to buy an old style HDD soon, strip it from the casing and put it in my Slim.

I made the mistake of placing my PS3 slim on top of the 360 Slim as I was expecting the fan on top to be an intake fan, not an outlet. The end result of both consoles in use at the same time was the fan in each console went into "Dyson" mode.

The 360 does get warm in use. but if it is getting too hot the fan will go bonkers. Don't worry about it unless it is ramping up to full speed.

Wait, what? You can't upgrade the HDD's on the S?

If you're going to do that I would at least put some polyethylene foam around the drive at the top.
