360 Saying open tray when disk in

When games are inserted it reads, then says open tray. Any suggestions as to what could be wrong, and anyway to fix it? Its out of warranty.

its my nephews so cant troubleshoot until tomorrow. I think it doesnt say name of game, and havent tried DVDs. Its been working fine though previously.

my thoughts too, but if it did it once, my logic is it would keep doing it and become a PITA. I know my way around one, so it could be worth a punt.
