If you're using component it doesn't matter as the picture will be 576p regardless and then upscaled by your TV.

If you're connected by VGA you can enjoy pictures upscaled by your 360 which will be arguably slightly better.

So im better off getting a VGA cable for better PQ in films ?

It depends a lot on the TV and it's the million dollar question tbh.
The 360 only upscales over VGA so on paper for watching DVDs a VGA cable will be better. But remember the source material is still the same 576i so the difference will only be slight.

I'd have a look on http://www.avforums.com/forums/index.php at both the LCD threads and Xbox 360 threads and see if someone has tried both cables (for your TV) before you throw down £20.

For my 32WLT66 (Toshiba) I did find the difference from Component to VGA worth the investment as we use it as our main DVD player.

On my LG dvds look FAR superior through VGA as the image is resampled rather than just stretched.

which is also what any half decent tv will do.

upscaling player seem to have the most positive effects on the cheaper, smaller displays which would typically have the cheaper scalers.

thx for the info guys, so would games look better via VGA too ? and what setting should i have it on for games 720p , 1080i ? or something else ? RE: original question

I thought that TV was widely known as being crap for the 360 via VGA?

You can't interlace VGA from the 360. It's best to set it to 1:1 mapping with your screen.

It was before the 360 VGA enhancements. Now I find it gives a much sharper picture with the same colour depth as Component.
