Ive heard many conflicting views which have left me confused, can i play 360 games and DVDs via component or VGA at 1080P on a Sony Bravia W2000? I ask because i hear the Sony TV only accepts 1080P signals via HDMI.

thanks

i've got a similar tv, i use the component imputs for hd and all my games are in hd but i haven't seen any difference in dvd's, i don't think the 360 upscales the signal so i't like watching a normal chanel on sky hd!

Hmmm all i can find is this, but is this on all 1080p tv's?:

VGA:

HD DVD - 1080p resolution and all others

DVD - Upscaled as high as 1080p resolution and all others

Games - 720p games upscaled to 1080p, also supports native-1080p games in the future
Component:

HD DVD - 1080i resolution maximum, limited by AACS
DVD - Upscaled to 480p maximum, limited by CSS
Games - 720p games upscaled to 1080p, also supports native-1080p games in the future

i understand now... the 360 as it is will only do games in hd via component vga. (red green blue wires) not upscale dvd's... once the ad on hd dvd player comes out it will upscale the image quality of dvd's and play hd dvd's in full 1080p does that make sence?

Ive got the tv.

Component you can only do 1080i.

VGA when you goto 1920x1080 it says "resolution not supported" however it does display. The max res in the book for VGA is 1366 x 842 or something like that, id have to dig it out.

You need to use component to get 1080p on the set, my media centre is running through hdmi for 1080p stuff.

For the record though, 1080i on the TV looks absolutely incredible, and is substantially better than the best sub 2k plasma, the panasonic TH42PX60/600.

VGA looked washed out, that was with a 3rd party cable though (for 360), when i order another game ill try the official one to see if its any better.

In any case, 360 games would just be upscaled from 720p to 1080p, and being totally honest (despite just shelling out nearly 1700 quid on the set) your hard pushed seeing the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 40" set, unless your sitting 3 or 4 feet away.

There are many LCD & plasma's that are not supporting the xbox360 1080p output.(It's not even working at 1080p with the £5500 1080p pioneer EX5000 plasma)..It's to do with the 50hz/60Hz refresh rate the xbox360 is putting out..
Many TV's including my own plasma is designed to accept 24hz at 1080p over Component..Which i think you will find is the same as what the blu-ray/HD-dvd players are going to put out (1080p@24hz)..

Even if the sony supports the xbox360 at 1080p then you most likely find the sony tv scales the image better or just as good as what the xbox360 can..
It's only if you buy a TV that has a bad scaler that you notice an improvement..

1080p isnt especially important, im trying to future proof against near future developments. If 720p/1080I is superb then thats good enough for me.

I have a feeling ill be happy with whatever i get, its got to be better than my Samsung 22-inch LCD, which i can barely see in a lit room.

thanks for the help :)
