360 through HDMI

Is this possible? or does it have to be componant?

The only way you could currnetly display a X360 on a TV with a HDMI connection is by connecting a console via component to an AV amplifier that has the following specification:

1. Allows upscaling and converts all types of inputs internally then outputs each connection via a single HDMI output.
2. Best to ensure its also 1080p compatible as some only accept 1080i signals as a maximium.

Really though its not going to improve the signal quality and with such an AV amp the main benifit is you connect all your gear (s-video / component / composite / hdmi) into the amp but only have a single cable coming out the back to go to the TV. The amp acts as a switch box really, so what you select will then be displayed and of course heard on your tv and speakers.

The cheapest such AV amp (guessing) probably costs £300-£400 but again this is a full home cinema style product giving at least 5.1 audio amplification etc.

The woolworths one has HDMI and componant doesn't it?

EDIT: Sorry, just need to be sure before my gf buys it. We want both connections.

EDIT 2: It says this - HD Ready - YES VIA HDMI AND DVD COMPONENT

There's the Onkyo TX-SR604E at around £400, gets a good review in this month's HCC.

Only the Woolies one has both connections (hdmi and component), I thought you were asking if they both had component sorry.

Microsoft are supposedly releasing the Xbox 360 with the updated HDMI output, but their leaving out the HD-DVD to "keep down costs".

That's if you believe the rumor sites.
