360 warranty.

I noticed a month or so ago that people where on about MS increasing the warranty over 1 year for those who bought a launch day 360. Is this true?
 
Has anyone got any proof of this? I don't mean to sound rude...I just want some evidence. I guess I could call them tomorrow.

Yep I phoned them. They will repair any of the first run, one time only. The next one you get will be a later date. You do not get another year warranty on the replacement machine.

For that you need the extended warranty.

Upon further investigation, it was further discovered that the bulk of the units were isolated to a group that was part of the initial manufacturing run of the console. Say if my current one breaks when it's out of warranty - can I get a new xbox AND buy another warranty, or do I have to extend the warranty now with my current xbox BEFORE the standard warranty runs out?

Buy another warranty before your year is up. Otherwise everyone would just wait until it broke then buy the warranty. I would think for their own protection there is a no claim period of a couple of weeks to stop people extending just when their 360 broke.
 
I think I'm being a bit dim here so at the risk of making myself look a divvy here goes...

My 360 was manufactured in the last week of Nov 05 so I'm presuming that's considered an early machine.

If it were to break OUTSIDE it's warranty, would MS still repair/replace for free because it's an early machine? Because that's how that statement reads to me. If it breaks inside the warranty the statement is pointless because they'll repair/replace free of charge anyway.

Mines runs out early Dec and I'm wondering the same thing. I think they must mean they'll repair/replace it regardless otherwise, as you point out, that statement is meaningless.
 
I've mailed them tonight. I'll let you know what they say (probably..."ring xbox support!)

I actually have a quick question regarding the xbox 360 warranty in the UK.

It's come to my attention tonight that Microsoft have recently stated that they will repair/replace any xbox 360 free of charge as long as it was manufactured before Jan 1st 2006.

My xbox 360 was manufactured on 30th Nov 2005 and my warranty runs out on Jan 7th 2007 which is the anniversary of the purchase date.

Am I right in thinking that...
a) this statement is applicable to the UK?
b) that if my xbox were to develop a fault AFTER the warranty has run out then Microsoft will repair/replace it free of charge? (effectively giving my xbox 360 a lifetime warranty because it was manufactured prior to Jan 1st 2006) as per Microsofts' recent statement.

If I'm wrong on either count then Microsofts recent statement is worthless.

To my mind they havent said how long they will extend the period for on that first batch so I would say you do have effectively a lifetime warranty.

Just a quick one about the warranty does anyone no if you can upgrade it to the 2/3 year one at any point just by ringing Microsoft as long as its within the first year ??

as I'm thinking of getting it in Jan just to be on the safe side... also i am guessing there is a UK number you can ring ?

Yep you can. I did. You can either ring them and do it over the phone or send in the slip that was in your 360 box. I did mine after about 6 months or so. I did phone them and ask them first.

What number did you ring? I should really get it for mine (it still hasn't broken yet and im getting worried) :p

I sent an online e-mail query about this and never heard anything back.
 
I phoned the standard UK number in the back of the 360 manual. Then went through to general enquiries. The guy said I could use the slip or he would do it for me via card there an then.
 
Just noticed today that I already have an extended 2 year warranty for my 360 :D

I have an RBS Royalties Gold account and if you buy any electrical items using an RBS debit or credit card, it's covered by another 2 years after the manufacturers warranty.

So, if you have an RBS Royalties account and you've bought your 360 using your RBS card, then there's no need to buy an additional warranty.
