My 360 was manufactured in the last week of Nov 05 so I'm presuming that's considered an early machine.
If it were to break OUTSIDE it's warranty, would MS still repair/replace for free because it's an early machine? Because that's how that statement reads to me. If it breaks inside the warranty the statement is pointless because they'll repair/replace free of charge anyway.
